Tolkien was quite the linguist.
He spoke about 8 languages, and made up a few of his own.

I've only read LotR once, it took me foreeeeever. xD I really liked The Hobbit though, that was much easier to get through. I'll probably read both again at some point, they are really good despite the seemingly neverending landscape descriptions and what-not.

Not fluently. And I know that's ridiculous coming from a language nerd, right? But I simply lose interest in one language too quickly, and start taking up another one. :P

ljos: I love his descriptions. haha. Though most people get annoyed by them.

To be fair it's been a few years since I read them, I think I was probably about 13 or 14, so I might have been a bit too young to really appreciate the descriptions. Which is why I want to read them again.

I'm the same with languages. I've learned so many of them but I only know Icelandic and English fluently, all the others are like.. I might be able to have basic conversations and read fairly simple texts, but that's about it.

It's a Bank Holiday in the UK too but I think the library just runs an unstaffed service so I can be here stealing their interwebs as usual.
