"Nobody!" Steffox answered, a bit abruptly. A blush bloomed on her cheeks. "I-I mean... Steffox." she watches Elvilla's face for any signs of recognition but a second later plunges on, "I would be happy to help you! Absolutely! And unpreparedness, well, it's... it happens to me sometimes, I don't always get time to pack everything before moving on, you know, check-out times and all."
"I didn't catch your name, by the way" she adds, sheepishly. |
"Well Steffox, I am grateful to have met you. As you can see I have been wounded. I am not bleeding, it is just hard to maneuver sometimes," states Elvilla strongly. Elvilla could tell that there was something more troubling this girl, but she thought it would be best not to ask. Should I tell this lady my name? What if she recognizes that I am the queen? I shouldn't keep lies. I'll tell her. "My name is Elvilla. I am happy to have to here."

Steffox grins at Elvilla blankly. She has no idea where she is, much less who the nearby queens are. "Well nice to meetcha, then!" she sticks out a hand to be shaken.

Elvilla slips her white linen gloved hand over to meet with Steffox's hand. The two shake. "So do you know where we are exactly? Or just a rough location? It is easy to get lost in these things you know. I've always had my navigator do it for me, " Elvilla stumbled on her words and back tracked, " I mean my husband always did this for me. Though he got us lost most of the time too."

Steffox opens her mouth to answer, then closes it. She holds up a finger, indicating she needs a second, then swings her rucksack forward and rummages in it. She shortly pulls out a little leather box on a strap and flicks it open with a practiced twitch of her wrist. A battered compass is revealed. It has four arrows, which swing around wildly under the cracked glass. They slowly settle, pointing in four random directions. Steffox looks up. "No idea." |
"Ah well that is a fun compass. Hrm. So once you finish eating perhaps we shall that way," Elvilla says as she points one direction. "We are bound to run into something eventually. Whether it be a town or person."

Steffox puts the compass back in her sack and wipes her hands on her pantlegs. "I'm ready!" She stretches and skips to her feet, energized. "There's gotta be SOMEBODY around here."

Elvilla gathers the remainder of the food and places it into her robes. "Worse thing that could happen is that we die. Best case senario is that we stumble upon a cave of riches and become rich forever. Chances are neither of those will happen. I am sure I have enough food for us until we find someone. So shall we go?" Elvilla began to slowly stand up. Her staff was digging into the dirty as she used it to support herself. "I hope I am not being a nuisance to you."

"Oh pff, nuisance?" Steffox makes a dismissive gesture. She would just DIE of embarrassment if she knew she was talking so casually to royalty. "No way! I was just about to give up hope and just start eating rocks! I'm glad I found you!" she distractedly puts a hand under Elvilla's arm and helps her stand. "I mean, some rocks are pretty good. Sandstone, for example. But accidentally take a chomp on some quartz and just... won't be hungry for a while I tell you! Not til the jawache fades a bit!"

"Wow. You must have been traveling hungry for quite some time I imagine. I could not imagine eating rocks. My mom used to make rock soup. I never had any. Thank you for the help up. So where are you from?"

"Ohhh rock soup is good." A faraway look comes into Steffox's eyes for a moment before she snaps back to attention. "Here and there. Nowhere specifically. You know, just... somewhere." She's perfectly aware of how vague an answer this is. "You seem pretty dolled up! Were you on your way to something fancy? What happened? Fall off your horse?" she asks, concerned.

"Well, if we are going to travel together, I suppose it is time for you to know my past. I was birthed into the role of a princess. As time went on I grew to power and I became am empress. I had a loyal chief of court and he betrayed me. I remember him sending in guards to my throne room and they brought me out here and left. He has taken over. But their isn't anything I can do about it. So I suppose I am just a wanderer now," explained Elvilla. "But it isn't that big of a deal. I just want my mothers ocarina back."

Steffox gapes as she walks, stumbling a few steps before she stops and regains composure. "What!? You're a... you're a... You're an empress? But! Shouldn't someone be out here looking for you? I mean..." she flails a little, uselessly. "is it going to look like I kidnapped you or what?! Oh gosh, not again, if I kidnap another head of state am I going to be in SO much trouble, you gotta tell them I didn't do it!"

"Please Steffox. Calm yourself. No one will be looking for me. The whole castle practically turned against me. I believe that the townspeople can tell that you didn't kidnap me. The only thing which would state otherwise is the man who betrayed me. However if they do come looking for me, I shall make sure they know you did nothing and I will have you come with me to join my court.

"Would you really? Really truly?" Steffox wipes at her eyes, even though they're not visibly moist. She straightens with new resolve. "Well then let's get this guy!" she smacks a fist into her palm. "We'll give him what-for! Overthrowing my pal the empress!"

"Any girl who is willing to put her life on the line to protect me is worth a spot among royalty. But please, let us not think of me as royalty right now. I am no higher than you. I do not want you bowing and doing everything I tell you to do. We just need to get out of here alive. Right?" declared Elvilla as they wobbled down the canyon.

"Alive is one of the better conditions to be seen in, yes." she frowns in thought, helping Elvilla over some tricky rubble. "Well, merry and tipsy is a pretty good condition, too. Alive isn't a prerequisite though."

(I did some work, and I discovered that if we keep posting like this and no one comes in and throws off the pattern, I will be the first on page 500. But it might be broken.)
"Well I highly doubt we'll make it out merrily unless we can get out of here by nightfall. I hear many stories about canyons at night. They say that creatures come and drag away your body while you sleep. So let us go as fast as we can." |
Steffox starts at the news of the creatures. "Well we're not getting far this way!" she slips under Elvilla's arm and picks up the pace, eyes focused on the darkening ground. "How long can this canyon be!"
