I think it must be partially because the first snow takes people off guard and they haven't put snow tires on.

Guivre 06-05-2010 08:06 PM

We don't really use snow tires here because we have no hills. Wisconsinites call us "flatlanders".

Sovie Kays 06-05-2010 08:07 PM

Where I live, there are hills and flat lands. We're an odd layout.

Elmira Swift 06-05-2010 08:08 PM

I would be hard-pressed to find snow tires here. Maybe closer to Tennessee, but not where I live.

I keep thinking that it will get cooler in the house - our A/C is out and we're relying on fans - but it is wicked hot right now. I'm going to go watch The Pacific episode my son kept shutting off. Since it wasn't a cartoon, he hated it. He's napping now.

Will be back later.

I don't use snow tires. Unless you're driving out across the state or you live up on the hillside, you don't really need snow tires.

Guivre 06-05-2010 08:09 PM

See you, Elmira --

On an unrelated note, I want to have a cat now who can post to Twitter.

Quote:

An electronic collar that can track a household cat's activities and post them onto Twitter has been developed by Sony.

Developers at the Sony Computer Science Laboratory have unveiled the prototype of the [email protected], a device that detects what a cat is doing and reports on it online via a Bluetooth chip, technology website Tech-On reported.

Sovie Kays 06-05-2010 08:11 PM

That is absolutely the funniest thing!

Hey, what's the item on Elmira's ears?

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 08:12 PM

In Austin when it is icy out, you really do NOT want to go out on the roads.
People here do not know how to drive in those conditions.

They see a patch of ice and stand on their brakes. Then they go right into the ditch.

Sovie Kays 06-05-2010 08:13 PM

My god. See, this is why I'm hesitant to get my drivers' license. I know I need to though, soon.

Guivre 06-05-2010 08:18 PM

Sovie -- that's a pose of the steampunk headgear CI, it looks like.

Sovie Kays 06-05-2010 08:20 PM

Steampunk headgear? So, not apart of this event, then? darn.

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 08:22 PM

I have the other steampunk ci's.

Sovie Kays 06-05-2010 08:25 PM

Those are contribution items, we determined, correct? So that means I have to donate cash to get them?

Guivre 06-05-2010 08:27 PM

Well, at this point you have to buy them from another user. I forget when they came out. Winter of '09? I'd have to look.

Sovie Kays 06-05-2010 08:28 PM

Oh. I thought they were new, considering the nature of this event.

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 08:28 PM

I am now very low on seeds.
I think that I have purchased most of the items from the event show now.

Sovie Kays 06-05-2010 08:28 PM

I'm in the midst of debating over items.

My mom's seen that. She used to travel down to Texas a lot. It got to a point that when the cops saw her on the road down there, they'd just wave her by.

Where I live, I don't think people even know how to drive in normal conditions! Then again, nobody uses snow tires, but we tend to get a lot of floods. The entire area's in a bowl!

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 08:30 PM

Most states do not allow studded snow tires anymore.
Those were very helpful in North Dakota!

TaiyoTsuki 06-05-2010 08:32 PM

I wanted to get farther south for college, but I'm only getting to Carbondale...T.T
Well, when I'm done with my first four years I'm gonna go overseas for graduate school.

GrannyJ 06-05-2010 08:33 PM

I wish I had been able to travel overseas when I was young.

Sovie Kays 06-05-2010 08:34 PM

I want to so badly. Get me out of here!

TaiyoTsuki 06-05-2010 08:37 PM

Sadly, I'm gonna have to wait another four years...DAMN YOU S***TY ECONOMY!!!!!!!!! :illgetu:

Sovie Kays 06-05-2010 08:39 PM

I'm stuck here for a few more years unless I do a year abroad.

TaiyoTsuki 06-05-2010 08:42 PM

Sadly, I probably won't be able to afford study abroad.

Granny, you can still go to other countries now.
