And now for your daily dose of anti-kitten-killing speculation:
Sprocket.
Who are they?
What are they? To answer this neverending question, I have turned to the dictionary.
sprock·et [sprok-it]
–noun
1. Machinery.a. Also called chainwheel, sprocket wheel. a toothed wheel engaging with a conveyor or power chain.
b. one tooth of such a wheel.
2. Carpentry. a wedge-shaped piece of wood extending a sloping roof over the eaves with a flatter pitch.
Now, to simplify what this tells us, it means that a sprocket is the wheel part that turns a conveyor belt or something similar.
Does this sound right to you?
Well, to me, it sounds like a clever ruse. Remove the chain or conveyor and you've got a spinning wheel with teeth all around it.
Chainsaw, anyone?
To allow such an evilly disguised device to be the namesake of your team says something deeply telling about the members of said team. But, I will be fair, and I will attempt to break down our own namesake for the deeper meaning.
gas·ket [gas-kit]
–noun1. a rubber, metal, or rope ring, for packing a piston or placing around a joint to make it watertight.
2. Nautical . any of a number of light lines for securing a furled sail to a boom, gaff, or yard.
Now, I'm not that much of a sailing buff, but that second definition sounds very simple. The ropes holding down a sail that's not in use. The first is just as simple, and I really can't break it down any further. But, what exactly does this definition say about us?
It says that we are that which holds others together, that we stand against that which could ruin the things we care about. We stand against those who could hurt the people we care about.
We stand against Sprocket, who would dominate and destroy us.
Stand up against our foes. Defeat Team Sprocket.
