I like the story so much more than the game play. though if they game play is annoying and gets in the way of my story then curse them all!! :illgetu:

what media should I color this with? link I have yet to figure out what.

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-02-2010 05:12 AM

@Kat: It actually took me a few years and several restarts before I finally finished FF7. I always got bored with power leveling, but I refused to go any further in the game until I reached a certain level at any given time. :XP

@Sarasvati: I need the storylines, too, but my biggest hurdle to overcome with MMORPGs is that I don't care for the thought of paying to get the game in the first place, and then having to pay every month for the privilege of playing the game I already bought... I'm a cheapskate like that...

Kat Dakuu 06-02-2010 05:16 AM

I have not seen all of FF7. It takes my brothers too long to get through it so I always miss the ending. never captured my interest much. I think FF9 and 10 are my favorites. such cute stories!!!

it is kinda cheap to pay all that!!

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-02-2010 05:23 AM

@Kat: Oh, let's see here. I've played / beaten 7, 8, 9, and 10. Haven't beaten 10-2 or 12 yet. Haven't even played 13 yet. And I'm still in the process of playing FF7-CC.

Meh, it's not so much the amount that's the issue, it's the fact that they expect a person to pay for the game in the first place, and then pay to play. It's a principle issue for me.

Sarasvati 06-02-2010 05:27 AM

Dimitri: Yeah, there's that, too. I guess part of the cost is for servers, but still, there are plenty of games with online parts that don't require you to pay money to play. >_>; But then, I really don't know the inner workings of that kind of beast; I'd rather stick to my console games anyway. xD It makes more sense to pay by month for games that are purely online, where you just log on via their site (like Ragnarok and so on).

Kat: Ah, KH was fun. <3 I've finished a good deal of the games, most of the ones I haven't are the earlier ones (doesn't really count XI since it's an MMORPG). I don't plan on getting XIII, though. It's super pretty, but I'm not going to pay so much money for a game (well, and the system too) that might take over fifteen hours to get my interest. >>

Kat Dakuu 06-02-2010 05:34 AM

my brother got totally stuck on 12 so I don't know how it goes and I got bored of 10-2 because it seemed to me that my older brother was doing it all out of order! I don't like they way that game is set up or I'd play it myself. ooh, I love dirge of Cerberus!

anyways, I should go to sleep since I have to be up by noon. night

Sarasvati 06-02-2010 05:36 AM

Aw, where did he get stuck in 12? Has he tried Game FAQs to see if they had any ways he could get out? D: 10-2 did have a very disjointed way of going about it. I often felt like I was often going willy-nilly through that game. xD

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-02-2010 05:55 AM

@Kat: I haven't played Dirge of Cerberus. Doesn't that one revolve around Vincent? FF7-CC revolves around Zack and is a prologue to the events of FF7. Even though it's on a hand-held platform (PSP), it's got some awesome graphics and FMVs.

Aww, ok. G'night and sweet dreams.

@Sarasvati: The only MMORPG that I've played that's completely free is Maple Story. The graphics aren't all that great, and there's no storyline to speak of, but I enjoyed playing it because I was able to hang out with my brother, whom I don't get to see but a couple of weeks out of every year (since he lives in CA).

Sarasvati 06-02-2010 05:59 AM

Dimitri: Maple Story is really free? I always heard it was pay-to-play. Then again, I think I heard that over on Gaia, where most people think any other avatar-related site thing is uncool. 9_9 Aw, do you live on the East Coast then? Even not, I know how hard it is to see family when they live out of state. ><; I didn't see my brother for years at a time, but now he's moved back into the same area, so I've been seeing him more regularly. :3

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-02-2010 06:05 AM

Maple Story is free to DL and to play. You can, however, purchase credits by buying cards in certain stores (similar to purchasing Gaia Cash) to get special items to dress your avatar with. Essentially, Gaia and Maple Story are extremely similar. Maple Story even has an exchange area where players can sell unwanted items to other players. The main differences are that 1) There doesn't seem to be any real storyline for Maple Story, 2) Maple Story's gameplay is much smoother than Gaia's, 3) The avatars on Gaia look much better. Well, that's my opinion, anyway.

Sarasvati 06-02-2010 06:07 AM

Ah, I see. Maybe users on Gaia were just having complaints similar to the Cash Shop, in that all the neat items (that they wanted) were cash-only. xD; There would have to be a good amount of friends (or family, like with you) to keep me on an MMO if there was no storyline, though, I just get so bored running around leveling up without any real motive.

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-02-2010 06:12 AM

Well, another thing about the "cash shop" items is that, like with most RPGs, your stats change with your outfits (unlike the outfits on Gaia). Plus, I think you have to be a certain level to equip most items.

As for the lack of storyline, there are quests that you can undertake to help break up the monotony of essentially doing nothing more than power leveling to increase your job advancement, but they don't really pertain to any storyline. It's basically something along the lines of "go here and kill this beastie" or "go there and gather these items and bring them back to me" type quests.

Sarasvati 06-02-2010 06:22 AM

Oh, that is true. So one has to decide if an item is worth wearing over another due to stats. That an interesting aspect I forget about a lot, since in most console games they don't really change the look of the models. More games are having it where the weapons change, though, which is nice.

Yeah, that's kind of how Ragnarok Online was when I tried it (it had just been released over here, so it has probably changed a lot, I don't know).

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-02-2010 06:54 AM

Yeah, I wish there were more games like that. It always makes getting the newer weapons / outfits cooler. Of course, if the outfits aren't designed well, it can have the opposite effect as well. I mean, it'd be like "wow, this outfit has good stats, but it looks like crap! Should I really get it?" One of my more favorite console RPGs (that isn't part of the FF series) is a game called Rogue Galaxy. Not only do the weapons change when you equip them, but you can find alternate outfits to wear in place of the original outfits. Granted, they don't change any stats, but it's nice to have a selection of outfits to wear for each character rather than being stuck with one outfit throughout the entire game.

Sarasvati 06-02-2010 07:06 AM

Oh, that does sound neat, kind of like how certain fighting games let you unlock different outfits for the characters. I always wonder, when a game only lets them wear one outfit, if they wash it after, you know, spending hours slaughtering hordes of the undead and the like. xD

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-02-2010 07:13 AM

*lmao* That's a good question. I just wonder how the women deal with it. I mean, I've yet to meet a woman willing to wear the same outfit two days in a row, regardless of whether it's been washed or not.

Sarasvati 06-02-2010 07:17 AM

At least in public! Then again, I don't have a lot of clothes, so I probably wear the same thing when I go out and never notice it. xD

Even if there was water around, in most games I doubt anyone would want to jump in, because there are likely too many monsters waiting to nibble on the unwary. XDDD

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-02-2010 07:19 AM

Wow, I hadn't even thought about that. So, does that mean that everybody in those games would be really, really stinky? That would kinda take the glamor out of being a beastie slayer.

Sarasvati 06-02-2010 07:24 AM

Hahaha, I do believe they would, unless there's some kind of magical spell for non-smelling the games don't mention. I mean, in the older FF games, you had to stay at inns to rest up and get HP, so I imagine that in those cases, they'd bathe... But out in the middle of nowhere? Maybe potions make you smell pretty? 8D

Now I'm seeing party members killing each other, and then reviving, so their bodies won't smell or something. xD

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-02-2010 07:34 AM

*lol* That would be so wrong! Funny, but wrong. :P

Anyway, I think I'm gonna head off to bed now and get some sleep. Just remembered that I've got some bills to go pay tomorrow. Geez, RL can suck so bad. G'night and sweet dreams.

Sarasvati 06-02-2010 08:04 AM

Aw, I know how much of a downer bills can be. >_< Hope you have a good day tomorrow! Will chat with you later, I'm about to head off myself.

ToriKat 06-02-2010 09:17 AM

*yawns* I'm so tired. =_=;; I hate my job.

Sarasvati 06-02-2010 04:50 PM

*pats and fluffs up a pillow for you ; O;* Although you're probably gone now. I hope you rest well. <3

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-02-2010 08:24 PM

Afternoon, all. How's everybody doing today?

Kat Dakuu 06-02-2010 08:38 PM
