Ah! :D Thanks, both of you! I'll go listen to all of them!

And because I mentioned him before, here's a cool Amr Mostafa song.

Buuut let me know if my link posting gets obnoxious, and I'll quit it. XD

Torrinne 05-29-2010 01:12 AM

Nevaaar. I love getting linked to new music.

So, I'm officially in love with this swedish group Diablo Swing Orchestra. They have a song called "Balrog Boogie". (I may be the queen of the nerds.) Also, any band that can completely naturally mix swing, opera, and metal into one song wins at life.

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 01:15 AM

Balrog AND Swing orchestra?! I have got to check this out. I'm an avid swing junkie. And I love LOTR. >> And opera.... /nerd too

Torrinne 05-29-2010 01:20 AM

Hurrah, fellow nerd. ^_^ Clickie for the lastFM page.

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 01:24 AM

AHHH. I really love it! :D It sounds like a combination of The Brian Setzer orchestra, Oingo Boingo, and Nightwish.

It is! That sounds like an awesome idea for a binder.

I adore most of the bands that you listed, and off the top of my head I think I'd recommend Ra Ra Riot, Spoon, and Broken Bells if you aren't already familiar with them.

Oh I know Spoon, my sister has gotten pretty into them after hearing them on movie soundtracks, but I haven't heard of the others.

Torrinne 05-29-2010 01:27 AM

This is why I love LastFM. It gives me awesome stuff like that every once in a while. Worth sifting through the stuff I don't like for.

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 01:31 AM

I used to listen to music there a few years ago, and now I can't remember why I stopped. XD It's really convenient.

Torrinne 05-29-2010 01:34 AM

It can be kind of a pain when they don't have what I want to listen to, but the rest of the time it's great. I'd say about 90% of the time I listen to music, it's there or on Pandora. Less on Pandora, though, they have commercials.

poet`s playground 05-29-2010 01:34 AM

Haha I guess I am kind of stuck in my ways and like to listen to my already-owned library instead of risking stuff I don't want

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 01:36 AM

Lately I haven't been getting much new music. I'm digging up old music that I used to love and forgot about. XD I just finished my Billy Joel craze, so now I need to find something else. XD

Torrinne 05-29-2010 01:38 AM

Aw, Billy Joel. ^_^

That's not necessarily a bad thing, poet. If you enjoy it, why not listen to it?

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 01:39 AM

@poet- Yeah, a ton of the music I have is my old nostalgic stuff. XD Like the Cats Don't Dance soundtrack >> /nerd

poet`s playground 05-29-2010 01:40 AM

Haha, I have some Billy Joel in my library; not from my own purchases but I do like a number of his songs.

It is kind of funny/amusing, though, when people get Billie Joe of Green Day confused with the Piano Man. xP.

And no, it isn't a bad thing, especially when you have ~5k songs (many again not from my own purchases but a part of my tastes all the same), but I like getting into new stuff from time to time too.

And I love soundtracks!

Torrinne 05-29-2010 01:42 AM

Ahahaha. I just tried to picture Billie Joe doing a cover of Piano Man, and I think my brain broke. I just can't picture him playing the harmonica.

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 01:44 AM

Wow, I didn't know the Green Day singer had such a similar name! XD I don't listen to them much. But yeaaah, I can't picture any Billy Joel songs in their style. Maaaaaybe "Pressure." Maybe.

Torrinne 05-29-2010 01:48 AM

Still a bit of a stretch, but I could see it. Much more likely than anything with harmonica or banjo in it, anyways.

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 01:49 AM

Ffff, a harmonica and Green Day. You know what though, they could probably do Still Rock and Roll to Me.

Torrinne 05-29-2010 01:54 AM

I dunno if they would be okay with welcoming people back to the age of jive.

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 01:59 AM

XDDD I don't think they could pull of pink sidewinders and bright orange pairs of pants either.

poet`s playground 05-29-2010 02:07 AM

Billie Joe actually plays harmonica in one of their songs, and it is a concert favorite. It is called "Minority" and there is a harmonica solo.

----------

And I dunno, I mean, you guys haven't seen the Foxboro Hot Tubs (Green Day side band - 60s garage throwback with the clothing to match)

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 02:11 AM

Really? Wow, I learned something new! The more you know... :D

XDDD Wooow, 60s rock clothes. Can't be as bad as glam rock, can it?

Yumeko 05-29-2010 02:19 AM

Hm....Let's see....My current favorite bands would have to be:

Disturbed
Korn
Flaw
Mudvayne
Slipknot
the GazettE
Miyavi
Evans Blue
Lacuna Coil
Within Tempation
Evanescence
Dope

And so many more that I can't think of right now.

poet`s playground 05-29-2010 02:19 AM

No, definitely not glam rock. And it is all clothing that I am pretty sure they already owned, it is just the combinations that are a little more ostentatious. At a recent Hot Tubs show, for instance, The Reverend (Billie Joe's alter ego) had red jeans on.

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 02:24 AM

@Yumeko- The only of those I've really heard before are Disturbed and Within Temptation (a teeeny little bit). But I'm guessing you like metal?

@Poet- I don't think red jeans are that ostentatious, but it definitely requires showmanship to pull that off. XD
