"Without music, life would be a mistake."

Kudos to anyone who recognizes the quote in the title. ;D

I'm always looking for new music to listen to, so I'm creating this thread mainly for others to post some of their current favorite bands and maybe to receive some recommendations from others for similar artists. And of course, general music chat is welcome, too. ;]

Some of my current favorites are The Weakerthans, Built to Spill, and Jets to Brazil. If you have any artists/bands you'd recommend to me based on those, feel free to throw 'em at me.

Isn't that Nietzsche? My friend made me a really awesome binder with that quote on it surrounded by the covers of all of my favorite albums.

----------

Green Day is my favorite and is a lot higher on my list than anything else, but I also love Foo Fighters, Muse, The Beatles, The White Stripes, Weezer, The Clash, The Shins, and a bunch of others... mostly fairly mainstream.

Wonder Woman 05-28-2010 09:02 PM

It is! That sounds like an awesome idea for a binder.

I adore most of the bands that you listed, and off the top of my head I think I'd recommend Ra Ra Riot, Spoon, and Broken Bells if you aren't already familiar with them.

to tell the truth i had to google it, but i like the quote and it makes me happy cuz i feel with out music my life would toddly suck

some of the bands i like are, Flyleaf, Queen, Paramore, Marianins Trench, and The All American Rejects

Aerinn 05-28-2010 09:13 PM

I like the quote too! But I didn't know where it was from.

I currently listen to Switchfoot! They're such loveable, silly, talented, chill dudes. :D

m00finsan 05-28-2010 11:08 PM

Nice quote. =3

Anyways, I mostly listen to 80's music; right now I'm on a Tears for Fears binge.

Torrinne 05-28-2010 11:16 PM

I'm on a Victoriandustrial kick right now. I think it's event inspired. So a lot of Emilie Autumn, Sanguine Prince Artisan Unit...good stuff if you like more alternative gothic/industrial music.

Winter Wind 05-29-2010 12:06 AM

I've never heard of any of these artists, haha.
xD!

I'm such a boring mainstream radio listener. T_T

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 12:27 AM

I'm more of an international music junkie, but I'd sure love to hear some domestic bands that people like. XD

Winter Wind 05-29-2010 12:30 AM

Yay for Jay Chou and Epik High? :3

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 12:32 AM

Oh I love Jay Chou! I've never heard of Epik High though. What style of music are they?

Winter Wind 05-29-2010 12:37 AM

Korean. :]
Listen to:
Love Love Love
Breakdown

Basically, anything.
I loveee all their albums. :3

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 12:39 AM

Oooooh! I really like Loveholic, so I'm happy to hear more Korean music! 8D

Right now I'm listening to Amr Mostafa music. He's Egyptian. :D

Wonder Woman 05-29-2010 12:40 AM

@ m00finsan: Tears for Fears are wonderful! If you haven't heard them before, We Are Scientists have a few songs (such as "Lethal Enforcer") that are pretty reminiscent of 80's music.

Winter Wind 05-29-2010 12:44 AM

@Squee: Wow, Korean and Egyptian? That's so diverse :3

Torrinne 05-29-2010 12:46 AM

If you like korean, look up An Cafe - they are the most adorable band ever. I kind of want to steal them and keep them in my basement.

Winter Wind 05-29-2010 12:48 AM

@Torri: That's not creepy at all.
xD!

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 12:48 AM

l-lol, yeah. I collect international music. I have music in so many languages- French, Gaelic, Latin, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Swahili, Arabic, German, Ukranian ...I lose track. XD But a lot.

Winter Wind 05-29-2010 12:51 AM

That's insane. o-o"

I should do that sometime, it'd be great to expand my idea of music.
Any recommendations for good international music?

Torrinne 05-29-2010 12:57 AM

Ooh, which Spanish bands, squee-chan? I have an on-and-off addiction to El Canto Del Loco.

-innocent face- Me, creepy? Never.

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 12:57 AM

Mmmm. Let's see. I LOVE Okean Elzy- they're Ukrainian. They were one of the first bands to start singing in Ukrainian again- for a while all the songs in Ukraine were in Russian. I think it had something to do with the death of a Ukrainian composer or something, but I'm not sure. Listen to this song if you've the time.

And Tryo is fun French music.

@Torrinne- mmm, I don't even know. XD I have such a random selection. My parents are from Puerto Rico, so I have a lot of Jibaro music. I love the Gipsy Kings. They're from France, but they sing in Spanish. And let's see... Atahualpa Yupanqui and Rafael Hernandez Marin. XD I think it's old people music though. XD I don't keep up with the more modern stuff, unfortunately

Winter Wind 05-29-2010 12:59 AM

Thanks for the recs Squee-chan! :3

@Torrine: I listen to Juanes, Julieta Venegas, Juan Bau...errr more, but I can't remember them.
Oh, and Axel. :]

Squee-chan 05-29-2010 01:02 AM

No problem! :> Mmm. Juanes. I hear everyone talking about him, but I've never actually listened to him. Any song recommendations for me to look into? :D

Torrinne 05-29-2010 01:03 AM

Old people music can be pretty cool, though. I don't know any of those bands offhand, but I'll have to check them out. *Love* Juanes, though, and I think my friend put Julieta Venegas on my iPod a while back. My favorite Juanes song is Rosario Tijeras, and La Camisa Negra is pretty popular, I think, so I would recommend those two.

Winter Wind 05-29-2010 01:04 AM

Juanes is actually pretty political, haha.

Try...El Odio por Amor

Or something like that.
xD
