Well, it depends on the situation, of course. There are situations with just one parent that's on drugs or otherwise unable to care for the kids, so than the older sibling becomes like a parent.

@FF: Hah, I've baby-sat a lot and kids seem to generally like me. I think most kids, unless their parents have done some weird upbringing, respond to you respecting them. I never talk to kids in stupid voices, for example, no matter the age. =P I think it helps.

@Silenia: True true, the situation is important. I'm just talking about on-extreme or abusive, etc, cases.

with your own kids you are also teaching them what you want them to know and how you want them to behave from the time that they are born so it just seems easier when you try to tell them no or something

I had to mind 15 month old boy for my teacher, he was fine until she left ahaha.

yeah that can take some time sometimes. my son is pretty good for the most part there are times that he doesn't listen but that is not very often ^_^
