Seriously why is v-day even a holiday? It pisses me off it is one of the worst holidays ever created! I vote to ban v-day ha ha ha. Who's with me?

Valentines is ok but nowhere near as good/cool as Halloween or Christmas.

But what about all the cheap candy the day after? I love that!

I don't understand why people can dislike valentine's day itself. Sure, you can dislike the way some people act on Valentine's day, but, hey, keyword: most people. Not liking Valentine's because you say it's too "commercial" is like saying you don't like Halloween or Christmas because they're... too commercial. Same thing. It is what you make it.

I kind of agree. V-day isn't that good but my reasoning is. Why limit yourself to showing your "special someone" how much you care to one day? It doesn't make it special in my case. Just shows that the only day you think of doing something special for them this day.

Not necessarily, Faded Beauty- just because you don't buy your mother/father/etc. nice gifts unless it's Christmas, does that mean you care about them any less?
Valentine's day just makes it more special, imo, because that's what the day is supposed to be devoted to.

I'm not the world's biggest fan of Valentine's Day, but I wouldn't go so far as to hate it.

The entire point of having a holiday is to have the chance to go overboard. I think of it like Mother's Day - Yes, we should all love and appreciate our mothers every single day, but it's nice to dedicate an entire day to her and remind ourselves about why we love her so much. :yes:

I personally think that most holidays have become more and more about money. Practically the first day of September you'll start seeing Halloween things, and then November 1st is Christmas stuff in stores. Thank goodness towns don't start decorating themselves until after Thanksgiving. But in our economy system, Thanksgiving no longer really exists. It does in grocery stores, because of course they have food. People are getting trampled to death because of 'special' sales before Christmas, and not everyone celebrates that holiday.

It is so similar with Valentines, it's blown way out of porportion so people can make money. It disgusts me, but I don't dislike the holiday because of that.

I just prefer to hide during that day from all the happy lovey-couples since it only makes me more aware of how single I am. I think it is acceptable to show affection, but using a single day to make money off of how people care about each other bugs me.

But then again, every major holiday does that. I'm not against the idea of showering someone with love, the day just makes me jelous of those who are lucky enough to have someone who cares that much about them.

That's like asking why we give gifts at Christmas time.
Commercial holiday.
But people use it as a special day of the year, to do something really nice for the people they love/care about.

Ooohhh I think I hit some buttons on some people! Well, you know I just don’t see any logic in the holiday. It is in a way a glorified anniversary for a lot of people. I do agree with some of you though. That the special someone isn’t limit to a lover but could be to a loved one or a close friend. Who ever you want. Make me not hate it all that much but still. Seeing all the couples and heart shape make me sick then again I don’t quite care for the color pink! It is entirely blow out of proportion like some one else said it is a money thing. The candy and chocolate is the best and only good part of the week!

Here is an interesting fact never start dating someone on V-day there is to much pressure on the relationship and it doe not last… I cant remember where I heard that it could have been from some magazine or the radio.

So anyone else got some input?

Ohh I so forgot that! I forgot about how you do the v-day things in school. It has been way to long! I remember doing those they took forever.

I have traumatic childhood memories of valentines from when I was in the 6th grade, they made giving Valentines optional and no one game me one, I'll never forget that lol.

I dont absolutly hate it. I think its kinda cute and stuff but its just that shops fuelling it. Its all just a money making scheme. Plus I never have a valentine, hah.

you guys know there is an international day of Hate? just like valentines is for love. i heard about it last year and thought it was amusing.

Personality I love most holidays. Even the ones we do not celebrate. No, I do not have a girl friend. But I do have a few very good friends. On that day we like to hang out and be idiots ^_^

Panda-nee oooohhh now that is bad. I never had anything bad happen I just don't get it. My school required if you wanted to bring v-day cards/candy you had to get enough for everyone in your class. That is why it was such a chore.

meh, I don't hate it as such, but it depresses the living crap out of me. Still, V-Day ranks only just behind Halloween on my list of 'days to goth-out more thoroughly'. =3
