I don't like Valentine's Day.So what?

I don't like it,but I'll do the event.I don't like it at all.So many people fussing over this one day,it doesn't make much sense.I don't want to start any argues.I understand fussing over it if your about to propose or going to ask someone out,but otherwise....What's the fuss?

ElysiumFate 02-12-2010 01:23 AM

I don't necessarily get what you mean by fuss...do you mean all of the trouble people go through for dates?

I have to say that a great deal of people probably don't fuss that much over Valentine's day. I don't and no one I know does.

The most I expect out of Valentine's day is a quiet evening and a simple "I love you" if I happen to have a boyfriend in a serious enough relationship. Well...a bouquet of red roses is nice, but just the presence of the loved one is enough for me.

The only reason that I'd fuss over Valentine's day is if the significant other completely ignored me. I also only make any deal over it because I love the warm feeling it puts in my heart and the hearts of others...that "love and happiness might just exist after all" feeling. I think that's all anyone actually cares about if they're a good person.

Lethargie 02-12-2010 01:26 AM

I'm not crazy about Valentine's Day, but i dont hate it.
it's a day.
an excuse to go do something sweet.
that's it.

Urboros 02-12-2010 01:29 AM

well this year its chinese new year *beams* so celebrate the year of the tiger instead! I'm going to wear stripes; and wait for v-day chocolates to go on sale.

I don't think love can be comericalized, but chocolate is delicious.

Oni no Tenshi 02-12-2010 01:30 AM

I used to work at a greeting card store, so I am sort of "over" the whole V-day thing myself. It always seemed to me that the most negligent spouses were the ones buying the big teddy bears and oversized greeting cards. Most of the time, you could totally see how bad a relationship was based off of how big the gift was....or perhaps that was how big the person's guilt was.

Anyway, my favorite story was from one year working V-day and we ended up selling the super mondo huge stuffed bear (we nicknamed it "the homewrecker bear" because it was literally about four feet tall and three feet wide) and it was to some guy who looked REALLY guilty. >_>

Sidhe 02-12-2010 01:31 AM

I agree with Urboros, I hate all the mushy stuff involved with Valentine's day.
But it is good for chocolate!

Aoi Kazuya 02-12-2010 01:38 AM

mm..I never understood the hubbub either. it's just like any other day of the year, why do you need a specific day to go and express your love? Why not just do that on a daily basis or something...eh...and I'm not really a fan of chocolate so it will really depend.

On the other hand, I guess it's kinda sweet seeing little kids giving valentines day cards to other kids...it's just kinda wrong if they don't understand why their giving them...

LadyKnightSkye 02-12-2010 01:42 AM

Yeah, not too fond of the fact that it's become an excuse for stores to have sales and stuff, but that's every holiday.

To me, Valentine's is a lovely time to get together with all the people you love, not just a significant other. One of my favorite Valentine's Days of all time was last year because I got to spend it with my family. Time with them is precious to me now because I'm away at school. Having someone to love romantically is great, but that familial love is important too.

NiteMAREXIII 02-12-2010 01:43 AM

I know the story behind the St and the naming of the day,but it wasn't about chocolate and flowers and gifts. It was about showing a person the ends you would go to for them, not about gifts.Yes,flowers are nice (if you've gotten them) but giving a girl a plush doll is kinda pointless. You spent $3 to give a person a dog that says "I love you" in cursive. How does this show your love?

Aoi Kazuya 02-12-2010 01:45 AM

and seriously? plush dolls are overrated. My friends and I, when we did secret santas for christmas, instant reaction: Plush dolls are banned. Everybody uses them, do something original. Like, like...something I can't think of right now.

LadyKnightSkye 02-12-2010 01:46 AM

@ NiteMARE: Well, it doesn't really. Yeah, yeah, they're thinking of you, but I don't value Valentine's gifts much. Except chocolate since I can eat that.

XD You prefer a gift you can munch on?And an original gift:something knitted, drawn,or done by an original artist (think etsy or ShanaLogic)

Aoi Kazuya 02-12-2010 01:51 AM

yea, I guess that would work. It actually had some time and effort...not like those generic things you can just go to the store and buy. Who cares how much it cost? well.,..unless you happen to be the materialistic type of person...

inuyasha666hiei 02-12-2010 01:54 AM

i dont like it ether but i like the events and stuff here and on gaia

NiteMAREXIII 02-12-2010 01:54 AM

Well,ShanaLogic does a lot of things that are handmade specially (particularly paintings) but they sell useful around-the-house items, and so does etsy.Maybe someone you know likes candles, you can get them a nice set of vegan candles from etsy or maybe they need towels, you can get some nice ones on ShanaLogic.

But it is good for chocolate!

I wish that there was better chocolate out there, or that people would actually make chocolate for other people like they do in Japan.

One of the things I was always so jealous of anime characters was the whole "homemade chocolate" thing. I've never been able to make anything even closely resembling that sort of tasty treat, and most of the chocolates you can buy specifically for V-day (excluding super expensive See's Chocolates), tend to taste kind of crappy.

Le Phantastique 02-12-2010 01:56 AM

I enjoy doing something fun with my fiancé, but I don't think there should be a bug "fuss" as you call it.

Many couples(most of the newer/younger couples) get a little to overexcited about it, I think

I also think too many people who don't have a partner in life yet make a big fuss about how awful it is and are just plain haters.

Like someone said, an excuse to go do something fun or sweet, but I don't think anyone should put pressure on their bf/gf//fiancé/spouse/partner to do something grandiose.
Come now, love should be shown every day not once a year in February!

As far as gifts go, I don't like people who want something very pricey...I think it would be better if that special person made you a meal or a yummy baked good! or used a talent to do something special. I like art, and think I'm fairly good and this year i am making a large drawing of Yoda for my sweetie. I know it will be something special and unique and something he'll really like!

We're also going to ride our bikes along the beach that morning and go out to a really good place by us that makes awesome homemade ice cream!

I think stuff like that means more in the long run ^_^

Lethargie 02-12-2010 01:57 AM

Is anyone else finding this event as difficult as i am?
D:

i dont post near enough.

Well,if you get a cake mold and melt chocolate and chill it in the fridge, you can a nice gift for someone. As for decorating it,I'm not sure on the icing but you can always make an icing bag.(I'm jealous too,but I can make strawberry mouse with chocolate cups. :) )

Well,I excel in art and I can cook fairly well.I've been in a relationship for 7 years and all I want is a flower just once. That's all.Just a flower and I don't care what kind and I only want it once.Any other Vday,I don't care.

I don't exactly hate Valentine's day but I don't love it either. It's just like another normal day for me except that there's chocolates everywhere I look.

NiteMAREXIII 02-12-2010 02:05 AM
