Not everyone has a happy Valentine's day. Some people Valentine's is just a painful reminder of what could have or may have been. Putting your heart out there for someone else only to find out they don't feel the same way about you. Painful lessons in life.

True, but sometimes those painful memories light a path to even sweeter ones. Love is more than just a warm, fuzzy feeling, it's the soul's recognition in another. Just remember to look on the bright side...
Only after the rain stops, can you find a rainbow.

cosmo: wonderfully said. it's nice to see someone who's able to make such a thoughtful statement this time of year. most people are either too "in love" to see anything or too busy brooding about not being 'in love' to see anything.

Thank you. :)

I just think there's more to Valentine's Day than chocolates and cards. And people should acknowledge it for more than just a Hallmark Holiday!

Especially considering its roots. I mean Saint Valentine didn't send chocolates or flowers to some lover. He was martyred for marrying Christian couples. And the idea of a "valentine" came from the note he left behind for the jail keeper's daughter, who had become his good friend (not girlfriend - just friend). He signed it "your Valentine."

His death was an act of love not for himself, but for others.
That's what Valentine's Day should be - acknowledging those you love and hold dearly.

Agreed.
But more annoying then people wrapped up in hallmark moments is the people who wallow in self-pity because " no one got them anything"
I'm sorry but that just strikes a nerve when I hear people complain about that.

@poison: I agree. Like I didn't get anything this year and wasn't upset. I actually was thrilled because I surprised my Best Friend with a red rose and the look on her face was classic. I guess she'd never been given one before. Then again, I guess you could consider her expression my gift!
