I guess that "Buy One Get One Free" sale they had on russian wives online didn't work out so well for them, huh >.>

Why is there a shortage of Russian men? Are the other countries stealing them?

ToriKat - I've heard of that happening in a couple different countries, but I hadn't heard about it in Korea before, although I shouldn't be surprised. Pretty awful. I'm glad that the government is trying to change that.

I'm going to take a break from chatting. See you later!

yea, why are these shortages gender based?

i wonder if a shortage of women has anything to do with the high suicide rate in Korea. is it skewed by gender too?

@elizabeth_mazur: LOL! hiiiii

I have no idea why there is a shortage of men in Russia. That there are muslim minorities who value males more than females makes that even more of a mystery.

Males are preferred because females are viewed as a loan in a lot of Asian cultures. In the past, daughters would marry and go to live with the husband's family to take care of them. They couldn't see their own families. So when Chinese parents get old, in their case with the whole one child policy, they would have no one to take care of them. It's seen as the eldest male's duty to care for his parents.

@Huffie: In Korea, last name goes first. ^^

^^ It'll be a whole new movement! And we'll be the founders ;) or at least two of... I'm sure we aren't the first to decide this is a good set of morals to have.

In the West, gentlemen kiss the hands of ladies as a sign of love.
In Turkey, young people kiss the hands of the elderly as a sign of respect.
