As for caroling, you just click and see if you get an item or not. They wrote that they intended to post schedules of their availability. Some NPCs have, and some haven't. So just click to see who's available at the moment.

Oh, we were "playing", or rather, fighting for fun. It happens a lot (he always starts it, of course).
