I'm not much of an artist myself, so that's not my preferred method either.
I don't know if this gets you gold or not. The reason for not rambling, though, is that the topic creators and the moderators like to make sure real conversations are going on. It's the same reason you're not allowed to post "bump" like you can on other sites. I think there is only one forum you can't get any gold for posting in, the games and contests forum. You mostly get gold from posting, but I've mostly been playing the games each day to the limit.
When you post, you get more depending on the length of post. So try to post detailed responses (without rambling too much) rather than one word answers.
Also, if you like to do artwork, you can sell it in the art forums.
