4Kids does kind of tone it down a bit, but they also do really horrible jobs with character's voices. Most of them end up so irritating you can't even listen to them for any amount of time.
One Piece is awesome. A lot of it is kinda zany and random and sometimes doesn't feel like it's going anywhere, but it has it's serious moments (like now, in which it's taken a very sad turn for many people :cry:).
Really? Unless they were actually able to make some changes that made sense, I like it when they stay as true to the manga as possible. If you want something different for Death Note, I'd watch the live action movies. They had to change the storyline a bit to fit into two movies, but it works really well and it still makes sense. I actually like the ending in the movies better than I do in the manga. My biggest pet peeves when it comes to anime, though, would have to be bad dubs (I feel sorry for anything 4Kids gets it's claws into) and fillers. From what I've seen, the only anime able to really pull off filler arcs is One Piece. So much crazy stuff happens in that series already that a little more doesn't hurt.
I got into it around my Sophmore year in High School when I checked out the Anime Club out of curiosity. A lot of my favs tend to be shonen mostly with a few others mixed in. My favorites right now are Bleach, One Piece, Hellsing, Black Cat, somewhat Naruto, Death Note, Hetalia: Axis Powers (current obsession), Fruit's Basket, ... and more I can't think of right now.
Agreed! How bout that Vietnamese food!! I wish I could take you to Phou Da in Winooski, Vt. AMAZING! They have this beef soup with quail eggs and fresh mung beans :drool: <3 I wish we could have all seen each other longer! *sob*
