I hear ya. Like said, I took up accounts in norauniverse and diaspora, but they're not as well used as facebook, so they're not really scratching the itch that was my daily facebook checkins.

On the other hand, facebook had changed a lot before this, so it wasn't as much fun as it had been, in hindsight.

As for losing the stuff, well, it sucks, but you mourn and move on. You kinda have to! It's not the first time I've lost stuff online, after all. I had a geocities full of pictures that vanished when geocities stopped hosting, and all sorts of little things like diaryland and RP bbs and such. I guess what they teach you in school when you first learn to work with computers is true- save work often!

I've been off longer than I was on at this point but I still miss my pictures. Ugh. UGH. Don't let this wreck you. Please. Write something today. Please. Go take some pictures this week. Keep at it because you gotta shake it off and keep going.

I like you because you hate facebook. We didn't start this war.
