Makes sense! I don't use Facebook that much either, to be honest. I log in, but mostly just to chat to a few friends not actually read stuff or post new things. Occasionally I do, but I'm usually do lazy.

And hurray! I'll start posting to that thread now instead.

Oh really? I have your Mene one added on my Facebook still, but sure, I can PM you the links.

Also, I made the thread here: TL;DR [You've been warned!]

I don't always get to the post limit. I think of it as an accomplishment.

I'd be happy to chat in a Nations thread. We could actually earn gold that way. (Score!) But I'd probably still move private stuff to PMs if it comes up.

PS - Did you see the last few albums on my Facebook? There are a bunch of pics of my fiance on there as well as my wedding kimono.

No prob! Like I said before, I don't get a lot of opportunities to talk with people in English these days, so I'm more than happy to chat about anything. But I'll keep that in mind if something comes up and it's better replied to via PM.

I agree that hearing about different cultures and walks of life is interesting. I took a bunch of anthropology classes and I would have been interested in a career in that field if I thought I had a future in it. I think it's better as a hobby.

But keep in mind these are only my opinions and I've only experienced a small sliver of "the Japan experience" largely concentrated in just one geographic area and I have my own sets of biases. So unlike that video guy, I wouldn't say you should take my word for it. Everyone has their own impressions of Japan that vary dramatically depending on your personality, language ability, location, age, gender, ethnicity, etc.

Anything I say, even if I forget to preface it with a disclaimer, should be taken with a grain of salt. But I'm happy to provide an extra perspective where it's wanted.

I just exceeded my post limit. Though many of those were queue posts.

(Continued since I actually hit the text limit!)

I think that's why a lot of people consider Japan very xenophobic. The mindset is still "Japanese are different than the rest of the world" and "non-Japanese can never become Japanese". People like foreigners (excluding maybe Chinese and Koreans for a lot of reasons) so long as they're visiting temporarily. As long as that mindset dominates, I don't foresee the transition of Japan increasing in diversity happening very smoothly.

But at the same time, it's very easy to live here and carve out a life for myself. Aside from the annoyances, there are tons of positives and I love my day-to-day life. Plus, I plan to start a family here so I can look forward to that. Basically, I've accepted my role as quasi-outsider and I'm fine with that.

(Yay for walls of text! No worries. I'm totally keen to talk more about stuff. I just would rather move it to PMs if you want to talk about personal things, like specific stuff about my fiance, since I know he wouldn't like me sharing private stuff on a public website.)
