[B]When I was younger I used to always get sick around the Christmas Holidays. I missed four school concerts when I was in elementary school because I was always sick. But that was when I was younger. After moving across the country and gaining a few years I do my best to avoid getting sick during the school year. In high school it's not really smart to miss more than a few days. In the summers lately, I always get that major sickness. Last year, a week before my birthday, I caught pneumonia which apparently isn't a weird thing. People can catch a chill and get sick just as often as you would in the winter. This year it's a bit different and believe it or not it's all linked to air conditioning.

Because it's so hot and humid in the summer time, all houses in my area are built with air conditioning and as much insolation as possible. In about mid June the neighbourhood's machines start buzzing and stores and small turn into refridgerators. The dry cold air is always welcome but on the bad side I get nose bleeds all of the time from it. My nose gets so dried out inside that whatever is in there scabs. They I blow my nose and voilà, instint nose bleed. Luckily they're never big. One kleenex and I'm done and dealt with.

So lately that's what I've been dealing with. Minor nose bleeds, dry mouth and dehydration if I'm forgetting to keep a bottle of water at my side. I thought that it would stay that way but this morning I had a rude awakening. I went to stretch out my legs and I had this sickening leg cramp in the backside of my right leg. It was so back that I literally cried out. So my mom ushers herself over and I'm half asleep and freaking out because my leg hurts so much! Getting small cramps when you wake up are something that you deal with but this was incredibly painful. So I stood up and put my weight on it, dried my eyes and took an advil. I thought that it would go away as the day went on but it hasn't. So after a run into my hot tub, heat rub, icepack and then heating pad it's still not any better. At least, I can say, it's not excruciating. The cold of the air conditioning probably didn't help it but I was on my feet all day and definitely not drinking enough water.

So there's my speel. I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this kind of thing. Tell me your remedies in a comment!

[B]I can honestly say that school has sucked the life out of me this semester. After a week of actual intense work I found myself unable to decide what I wanted to do. After a wicked science test on Friday-which by the way was only made worse because of sudden power outages on Thursday-I had no idea what to do with myself.

None.

Whatsoever.

So on Wednesday I had finished The Chronicles of Narnia. I stayed up until 11:30, finished the end of the last book and rolled over. On Friday after school I picked up a new book. I finished that one, 388 pages later, the next morning while I babysat. I was too bothered to stay up past two to finish it. Anyways, today now that it's Sunday I'm still bored out of my mind. Nothing comes to me. I can't write. I cannot even think of drawing. I'm just blah. I forgot to mention the fact that when it was decided that we were to run errands I was not excited to be dragged through stores listening to associates blabber on about things that we don't need.

Anyways, I got home. I have an okay experience. My mom made me laugh, I bought some candy, scratch that, A LOT of candy and settled in at home to read a magazine while they went out to finish some other things.

Then I was smacked in the face with inspiration.
My parents settled in and we watched Top Gun. A movie that is one of Tom Cruises' earliest. It is 20 years old and suddenly I find myself sitting here wondering what kind of story or plot or drawing I could whip up.

The thing is, and what I know I am trying to say here is that inspiration can come from anywhere. You cannot walk around thinking about how you have no initiative or state of mind to do anything. Sit down and do something and don't mope while you do it. Instead enjoy it, let it take you away. After that I am sure that you will be inspired, just like how Tom Cruise saved my inspiration and creativity for the time being.

[B]So, Monday. It's the first day back since the weekend. Remember that huge list of things that I had to get accomplished that I mentioned in my first entry? Well somehow I got it all done. The only thing I lost in the process was my free time but hey, I'm not here to start complaining about that just yet. Nope, today instead brings another complaint, something that I've been arguing with people about for awhile now.

This year has brought me many a new teachers who all have different methods when it comes to, well, teaching. So, this semester (second half of the year) I have 3 new teachers and the same art teacher as last year. These 3 new teachers are all incredibly different; the only thing that I can say that they have in common is that they're all guys. So, hearing from people who had my classes first semester (which would be Science, English, Math and Art) I knew what I was going to be looking forward to. My friends explained to me the different books I would read, the lessons, the math etc. I was excited for somethings, dreading others. But no, I had a curve ball thrown at me this year. My English class.

My English class is many things. It's different. The teacher for this class is new to teaching high school, not to teaching, and has a very nonchalant attitude. At least, he tried to be laid back when in reality he's only....it's hard to describe. Maybe creepy is the word? I can't quite say. Anyways, so he's new. We received the course outline on the first day, I looked over the books we were expecting to read, the summative assignment bla bla bla. It looked exactly as I thought it would. So we dove straight into the first book, one that was expected to be read. However afterwards is when the problems arose. Our second unit was completely different from what every other academic English class in our grade was doing. Then we received the summative assignment. Now my eyes are wide.

For my grade we are supposed to be reading a biography/autobiography as part of an independent novel study unit. From there we do various activities related to our books. At least this is what I was told we were going to be doing. Instead I learn that my teacher has fought to have it so that we don't read a biography, instead we are given something else; more of a research assignment and then you make up your opinion project.

So. What I was expecting did not happen. I should have known. I should have expected the unexpected, as many television shows say. I'm bummed about missing out on a good book and a few stronger assignments. I'm surprised to see that my class is the only one experiencing these changes. But every teacher is different; as I am learning. It's a good experience for me I guess but again; that doesn't mean that I have to enjoy it.

[B]I am like most average teenagers. I go to school five days a week, come home every day hoping that I will be free of the burden of homework. When you get to high school you begin to realize that you're putting yourself into a false reality by thinking that you won't have homework. What makes me different from the average highschooler is that I actually do the work. I am a full time student, without even being in university. I consider going to school my job. Sure I may babysit on the side, I mean jeez, you have to have some source of income. But school is my job, it's my life. Not only are the days I spend in the classroom important but the people I am surrounded by impact who I am and what I will be.

They always say that high school shapes you into who you will be. I agree with this, others beg to differ. I've realized that even after one year of being in high school I've found out a few things about myself.

1. I am a very good writer.
2. If I don't go into a career to do with writing I'm an idiot
3. I don't handle stress and exams too well. But I know how to cope and prepare myself.
4. I am a workaholic. If I am given something, I do it whether I hate the assignment or not.
5. I am surrounded by amazing yet new friends.

According to my English teacher of the previous year, and even this year, I have a talent for writing. When I was little I always sat around writing stories, wondering why I wasn't gifted with the talent of sports. Although I knew how to draw and do artwork I knew that it wasn't something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life. When I came to high school I found my talent, writing. It took me a long time although I cannot really complain. I know a lot of other people who have yet to figure out what they are good at and what they want to do. In this way I'm lucky because I have the opportunity to learn so much and that I can also build on what skills I have now.

So, as a full-time student and now aspiring writer I get to stare down at the math quiz preparations and wonder, why the hell do I need to know this if I'll never use it? Ever heard of quadratic equations and functions? Do you think this will ever apply to writing stories? To be honest, I can find better reasons for knowing how to calculate velocity and acceleration than using this. But apparently I need to know it. So my inner work ethic nags me and soon I buckle down and look at the questions. I have two packages of questions with full answers and a practice quiz to go through, not to mention the English assignment that is also due Monday and science quiz prep for Wednesday. Now, don't look at me and think, she's lying about how much she has to do. The reality is; I do have to do this all. And it stinks. Just because I do it doesn't mean that I like it or enjoy it. But that is the joy of being a student. You learn and do things that you don't always like. And no matter how useless you may think something is, say quadratic equations and functions, you still have to do it. So I guess that I had better get going on that now, or else I'm dooming myself to endless stress and complications.
