The last election was held in 2008, yes. The upcoming election would actually be the first one I'm voting for, as I have now reached the age permitted to vote.
Usually the people would vaguely know who the parties would elect as prime minister if they won. In the case of my district, one of the opposition parties had always won the people's votes mainly for community reasons, because people were familiar with them and they have taken care of the area for many years, so it's a loyalty vote.
If you've looked at the List of General Elections, you would notice that the previous election had the Government losing many more seats than usual, the last paragraph in the "State Level" section explains why. Previously, the opposition parties had always been separate from each other. etc.etc.

Should be some time early next year. I'm predicting January or February, but who knows. :)
