i dont have central air either and my HOUSE IS SOOO FRICKEN HOT RIGHT NOW.
im like sweating my pants of, its terrible. and my mom wont turn on the air because she doesnt wanna waste electricity, BUT ITS NOT WASTING IF WE NEED IT TO NOT MAKE US SWEAT LIKE A GROUP OF BUTTERED UP FAT PEOPLE.(sorry if this is weird for you, but this is an analogy we use a lot with my group of friends xD)
