You're right that you shouldn't be the only one putting in the effort to visit. With a fiance, there shouldn't be a question of whether or not you're both willing to move forward together, to do what it takes to ensure that you're both happy, and so forth. I doubt I need to tell you that when things feel off, there's generally a good reason for it. I imagine you've told him that you want him to visit more often, but have you told him how you feel about the times when you come to visit? Nobody likes feeling like a piece of meat and they shouldn't have to, especially when they're with their significant other.

I'd comment on the friend thing, but I'm scatter-brained and thus notorious for being the friend who forgets to get back to people. I tend to get overly excited when hearing from people and then sort of...vanish for a while without warning. Not on purpose, mind you, but even so, it makes me a bit biased in that regard.

Life does have a way of waiting until we're already down to give us a series of swift kicks. We really ought to start filing complaints or something... >.<

On a more serious note, while it probably doesn't seem like much of a consolation, at least you got to see your mother a bit before she left. As for high school friends, I know how that is, that feeling of drifting away. Even those I was closest to I only get to see every now and again (and that's when plans don't fall apart). That usually means that it's time to go back out into the world and forge new connections. Not that you ought to let the old ones die completely, of course, but it can be disheartening to rely on them. Perhaps the thing with the con wasn't as selfish as it sounded? It could have been the only time that they knew they'd be in a given place at a given time (since people have to pay for cons in advance). Perhaps they'd grown tired of having to bail or missing out on hanging out with you and wanted to pick something concrete (and then worded the invitation badly).

Ah, long distance relationships. I wish I had something pleasant to say about them.
