It's different in each of the endings. In the "Leave" and "In Water" endings he says "I just couldnt watch you suffer. No...thats not true. You also said, you didnt want to die. The truth is, I hated you." but then Mary says "James...If that were true, then why do you look so sad?" In the Maria ending, he really did want to leave her and goes on to be happy without her, and in the Rebirth ending, he needs her so much that he tries to resurrect her. :sweat:
Actually, I don't think James is insane. His wife just died, so he's experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Often, victims of PTSD (such as Eddie and Angela) can create fantasy worlds to escape from reality, and in order to recover they must pass various obstacles to discover the truth, which, in James' case are the monsters that represent his sexual oppression, etc. So, the personal hell he is experiencing is a way of coping with his sins. (Like how Pyramid Head is there to punish James and help him find the truth.)
They can hurt you, minimally. Nothing a health drink can't fix.
The only problem is, if you get the puzzle wrong, it exits you out of the puzzle screen, so you have to examine the keypad again, and while you try to do that, the Creepers bite you. D:
Hahaha, that reminds me of Noisy Hill. "Ooh, a hole! Let's jump into it! ...Ow, that hurt. Right, I won't be doing that again. ...Ooh, another hole! Wheeee! ...Ouch. I forgot how much that hurts. I'll never do that again. ...Another hole! Yaaaay!" xD;
Speaking of which, I just got to Lakeview hotel again. AUGH. This freaking hotel takes, like, 1/3 of the game! >:U
Hahaha, exactly! And I played the game with the riddle difficulty set to Hard, and the guide kept saying "Basically, you just have to FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF." and I was like "NOOOOO!" *dies*
Oh, and I'm sure you saw it in the playthrough, but that bug room is SO ANNOYING! After your flashlight turns off? You have to try every single combination of the three numbers that are lit up until you get the right one, and you just have to guess. I tried every single possible combination before I got it right the first time... and it changes every time you play. Dx<
Yeah, I sort of saw it before the rollback, but I wasn't able to reply. >_>;
That's cool that you're buying it, then! There's definitely a lot lost when you only watch the game instead of actually playing it. :)
Good luck with being able to play it! I definitely suggest using the guide, since you've got the same problem as I do. >_> "Oh, I won't use the guide, I can just figure it out." 5 minutes later... "OHGOD WHERE AM I?!" For me, I pretty much followed the guide word-for-word my first time through, used it a little for the second time through and haven't used it once for my third time. :3
You should totally buy SH2!!! :D
It's really fun to play, and you can set it so that you either don't have to fight the monsters at all (beginners) or so that they're really easy to kill (easy). Also, you can use an online guide (there's a really good one here.)
Also, I am horrible at combat games and I was able to beat the bosses pretty easily. It's the puzzles (and not getting lost. >_>) that I have trouble with.
