mhm. water, air (wind), fire, earth, light, dark. since we have a segregation of light and dark fairies, we could make it like... light fairies are the rejuvination elements, typically found in spring and summer, and dark are the destroying elements found in fall and winter. while both rejuvinate and destroy, I'd say the light fairies rejuvinate/heal more and dark destroy more, hence the light and darkness of their nature

we could make it more interesting and have the characters be opposites (one light, one dark). Or is that too romeo/juliet? because obviously if dark fairies choose to bring harm to humans, and light fairies choose to observe them, then the two sides naturally wouldn't like each other. what is your opinion on the role of a fairy? because when it comes to the ROLE of a fairy, my opinion is very sterotypical (keeping nature in balance, essentially, hence the need for elemental powers) of course, sometimes (lots of times) light and dark are elements in this case, but we could work around that
hmmmmmm... you could have two factions. dark and light fairies. dark are the fairies you speak of and light are CLOSER to stereotypical fairies (but way more attitude... just nicer to humans <.<) To make it more interesting, we could have them all be in one kingdom... fairydom... and under the rule of one royal family (king/queen, emperor/empress, w/ev). the laws could simply be: "do as you wish to humans, but do not harm another fairy" to make it simpler.
