Indeed. So you stay away from big groups, travel alone or with temporary partners, and keep out of the forests. Make sure you're quiet and always turning around to make sure nothing sneaks up on you and for the love of everything still alive in whatever world this takes place in, have a flare gun in case you see an actual aerial rescue vehicle.
But the more people, the louder, the more space you take up, the slower you are, the less you're able to hide quickly. And if one gets bitten and they decide to hide it? That's not exactly a good thing, especially if you're all in a safe indoor place and you think it'll be fine because nothing can get in.
And then you get attached to the person and then they get bitten and then they don't want to die so you have to kill them and live with the guilt for the rest of your life until you throw yourself at the mercy of the zombies and hope they tear you apart quickly, at least...
But they're spread out. They can circle around you and hide without even trying due to the excess trees. You'll be busy with a few and not notice the one coming up behind you. Or the one off to the left, behind a big bush.
This is why you start hoarding bullets. And make sure to keep the safety on! With arrows they don't work so well. They're big and clunky instead of compact and kept in their own personal cases or magazines.
Ah, though they're not quite as powerful or effective against a zombie skull. And bone is considered stronger than steel despite their tendency to break like a toothpick. And they may be quieter, but there's more to carry about with you regarding bow or crossbow.
