That actually sounds like the watered-down version of Dexter's stories. I never read them, more than a couple pages anyway since I was bored that day, but these are actually a race of all-male aliens much taller than human men, and live on a desert mining planet. The workers that are sent there from Earth are all men as well, and are usually immediately taken up by one of the alien characters. So I was told, anyway. I believe they connect mentally to one they take a liking to.

I'll make it better later, I'm not entirely happy with it.

Now didn't I say I did? That's not a lie! I put it in a folder and now it's with me forever.
