Erm.. well, basically a person gets to a point where they have a lot of items/money/time, and decides to create a thread in which to give away stuff.. Some people have a certain specific audience in mind (ex: helping questers or new people), and others will focus on a recurring contest or activity (ex: Jelly's wishing well which distributes stuff via a weekly drawing), others are just more 'come and talk to me and maybe I'll give you stuff' with contests now and then (silenia's charity?).. If you have specific questions I can make more useful comments probably. :D
