Just a tip on the way you use the word "as". "As" means "similar to", "in the manner of", or "because". The problem is, you don't use it in either of those contexts. Take a sentence from your post, for example: "She stood up straight as her hair was in pigtails". Because the word "as" is there, this either means "She stood up straight like her hair was in pigtails" or "She stood up straight because her hair was in pigtails", neither of which really makes sense. Most of the time, simply omit the "as" from your post and it becomes correct; "She stood straight, her hair in pigtails" is grammatically correct.

Granted, I'm not flawless, but it helps sometimes ^^ When a sentence isn't correct it tells me and when a word is wrong it tells me how it's really written xD
