There isn't a HSUS shelter around here. The closest no-kill shelter is an hour away and isn't hiring. I think the closesy official HSUS run shelter is two hours away, in my hometown. Actually they're more like rescues, since anyone can pay the fee to be certified to run one. I do agree with the quote on your newsletter. We have had too many owner surrenders that the owners just couldn't afford to feed them anymore. Sometimes they had been evicted, and the only place they could find to live didn't allow pets.
