I'm not sure my post leaves much for you to work on. You could have him hear of a woman of great skill protecting a village and him wander into town and try to find her. Or....attack the village.

I'm going to have to backstory be that he raided her village or something and she was the only survivor because she tried to fight him off even when she was alone. She'd have been about 15 or so at the time. He likes what he sees and makes her his prized underling. (pupil)
