Late afternoon. 4:38PM. :P
What I am up to? Just deciding if I am going to get myself a slice of my birthday chocolate cake, as it's my birthday and all that. XD |
Ooh! Where do you live? Generally. XD
OH snap! Happy birthday! Git that cake! [eager] |
Netherlands. You know, flat little country in north-west Europe, boxed in between the sea, Belgium and Germany? XD
You? Probably will do so, yes. <3 |
Oh! How cool! [eager] What's the official language of the Netherlands?
I live on the East Coast of the US. Boooooring~ [lol] Hooray! \\o |
Dutch, which we call "Nederlands". Sometimes brings in confusion, as Germany's name ("Duitsland" in Dutch, "Deutschland" in German) seems far closer to the name you guys gave our language than Netherlands is. XD Closer to the German name for the German language (Deutsch) too.
|
Ah! XDDD Indeed, confusing~ So you're bilingual then? [:O]
|
Raised with the Dutch language, but I speak Dutch and English both fluently, yes - even if in case of English, both my spelling and pronunciation tend to switch from American to British and back and forth - though I also can fluently understand German. Speak it well enough that people know what I mean, same for writing, but my grammar is a mess.
And then there about half a dozen languages of which I know varying amounts, but nowhere near enough to consider me even semi-fluent, and another half dozen in which I know some random words here-and-there. In French, for example, I can count to twenty and tell others I don't speak French. XD Well, that and the very most basics, but I totally fail in that language. Know the basics of Latin and Ancient/Hellenistic Greek, though that's mostly passive use, of course. :P |
How awesome. * 0* I'm jealous of European folk because it seems like they get a lot more exposure to different languages and stoof.
I took a short and pretty lax class for German recently. Difficult language there. [lol] But I wouldn't mind just getting a level like yours. XDD Lmao! I'm the same way in French too. Languages are such fun. [drool] |
Well, it helps being in Europe in a SMALL country of which the language is not spoken often by others outside that country (except half of Belgium, a bunch of islands that were former colonies, etc.), because you have to learn if you want people online to understand you. XD
|
True dat. [lol] Makes me think of all the people I could be missing out on making a connection with just because we don't speak one same language. [:O]
|
Then try having to get through people in a mix of three languages? XD
Last summer, was on holiday in Hungary. Half of the conversations were a mix of English, German and the couple of Hungarian words one picks up. XD None of them are my native tongue, either. |
Haha. XD At least you did it! I don't know enough of any other language to do that. D;
Maybe Japanese, but psh, still not enough for that either. |
It comes with some pointing at things and gesturing at times, but usually I managed to get my question, point or answer across. XD
|
Haha. xDDD Hey, that's what matters!
|
Good morning~ :B
|
Morning Ell!
|
How are you? :o
It's so cold. >w< My nose is freezing, I hate Texas weather. |
I'm good. Chillaxin. [lol]
Eating candy. > w> |
Anyone still here in this lovely not-so-tiny-anymore thread? <3
|
sneaking inside to have a look around! I am here!
|
Ah, hello again, then, spicedroses. =) Been a while since we talked, methinks.
|
/is probably gonna get 'woken up' in 20 minutes.
/hasn't slept yet |
Ah, skipped a night of sleep, Whered?
|
Absolutely not deliberately!
I was reading a fanfic, but even put it away so I could sleep for a reasonable time, but sleep just did not come to me :C |
Ugh, yes, I know that all too well. XD
