I don't like buying stuff over the internet. It's too much of a hassle. I don't have a credit card, I don't have paypal. I just have cold hard cash and a savings account. I would be more apt to "donate" to a website by purchasing cards that could be used online. As of yet, I've never done that either.

I donate XD Because I work and if it's something I like, I'll support the website. I've mostly only donated to gaia though and plan to get it back through art I buy.

I think it is extremely rude (and somewhat unprofessional) for a site to try and get people to join up other sites for the sake of getting more money. Asking for donations like that doesn't exactly make it a donation. xD More like border-line begging.
I personally donate when and where I see fit to spend my money. Although, to all the people saying that they dont want to pay for fake items, I don't look at it that way. It's like Bunai said up there. I could buy some candy for $2.50 and eat it in 5 minutes. And then where's my $2.50 gone? Avatar sites are like any other form of entertainment, and if I can support that entertainment and help ensure that it will remain there for my use.. then all the better! But only at my leisure of course. |

Yeah, I probs wouldn't donate, because; a) I get bored of things really really easily. b) I don't have my own money. c) Yeah... I'd rather buy stuff I could use irl. |
The only site I ever donated to was Gaia, before their items started sucking.
Donating is not mandatory and if they did that, then those mods must be pretty desperate. I'd definitely get off and never go back to that site. |

I only pay money for tangible things, so I don't donate to online things. The only thing I've ever donated to that didn't give me something tangible was the Obama campaign.

I never saw the point, personally, to be honest.
I realize that there are certain financial needs to be met for sites, but I, myself, I wouldn't do it, even if I could. |
It doesn't bother me. Nobody can force you to do anything, especially on the internet.
I do donate to sites if there is an item I really want. Typically, I don't. I have better uses for my money. Like wasting it on manga and clothes. =D |
The only site I've ever donated to before was gaia. Now I just buy the stuff with gold. I find it ridiculous to spend massive amounts of real money on an online site's pixels. Eventually the site will shut down anyway, and you'll be left with nothing.
It does seem incredibly rude that the site owner was going around emailing people to donate to two other sites. Why not just that site? I myself have never been forced into donating. If I was, I'd tell them off and quit the site. |
I ignore my e-mail so much that I would probably not see the note for months.
I think that was quite tacky of them. However, I do donate to my avatar forums because it takes so long for me to earn gold for my quest stuff. Some sites I joined when they were quite new, so I only get a copy of an item for myself, though. |
