I zoomed in and yes the outlines look much better. Beneath those outlines are noticeable grey specs that stand out too much. That is what I said made the edges look a bit static-y. You should remove them and replace them with one of the lighter colors in that area.

Ah yes i see what you are saying *goes to fix that* i missed have skipped that advice lol

T^T you can't even comment on the stuff?

Alexandrus Gambino 06-18-2012 10:51 AM

Hmm, well, if you don't mind some criticism: the ears look a bit lopsided on that hat. Second, maybe you shouldn't shade it by scribbling all over it. Instead, pick a light source then highlight the areas facing it and shade the areas facing away from it. If you want it to have texture, then you're going to have to use what we call dithering.

Dithering is not simply 'crosshatch' dithering, though. Irregularly shaped dithers can give the appearance of scales, or feathers or even fur. I could pull up a tutorial for it if you want.

Kilia!!! :glomp: I love love love the hat! And the skirt you've set aside in the trash is awesome, too!

Kilia 06-18-2012 09:34 PM

Alexandrus Gambino: no i do not mind criticism lol :) in fact i will take all the help that i can get  I was thinking about that too but i believe that i was doing it like that to get the general idea out there, i know it needs a lot of work and the tutorial will be greatly welcomed :3 and Demoscout did give me good advice on outlines

Esmme: ESMME!!!!! >w< thank you very much but it still needs a lot of work and my poor shirt is getting changed so much lol oh and i will work on the skirt more at a later date

Ravinessa24 06-18-2012 11:50 PM

Kilia 06-19-2012 04:13 PM

we thank you very very much >w< still working on the hat though lol i feel like the shirt is finished

xuvrette 06-19-2012 04:45 PM

I actually felt that the shading look kinda weird at normal view.
I zoomed in your shirt and I notice there are still things to be improved on shading.
First off, you have isolated light pixels outside the dark outline.
The shirt fabric lack of definess. As in wrinkle or folds.
and overall, the pixel doesn't look... tidy.

Kilia 06-19-2012 05:05 PM

O.O *hangs head in shame* thank you very much for letting me know i will work extra hard to finish that one before my hat!!!! *runs off to make it even better*

xuvrette 06-19-2012 05:08 PM

Did you go through Derek Yu's tutorial as posted by Alexlex?
Do go through, the tutorial is clear and should be able to tell you have to shade.
You have to find other tutrials that actually tells how folds works on fabric.

Kilia 06-19-2012 05:11 PM

i fell asleep reading it lol i will work hard to make it even better and thank you again for you comments they really do help

xuvrette 06-19-2012 05:33 PM

Take your time. All skills take time to improve.

Kilia 06-19-2012 05:36 PM

>w< i will though i am glad that i need to do is add some folds here and there shade it better here and then yesh!!

okay re doing the hat this what i have so far........

xuvrette 06-19-2012 07:12 PM

button? there was buttons on?
Your shading now is very flat. Add more depth in terms of number of shades.
Did you go through the Derek Yu tutorial?

as for the hat, you should learn something call 'perspective'. I remember rainbowbow mention that perspective is his pet peeves, maybe you can ask him.

Kilia 06-19-2012 07:18 PM

hmmmmmm T^T this is so hard yes there was a button towards the middle of the shirt right above the metal mesh but in between the boobs towards the bottom......and yes i did go through the derek yu tutorial though i might have lost some information and tips while working on the shirt again....hmmm okay so lets just focus on how the folds are right now and worry about the shading later, so folds wise how does it look?

---------- Post added 06-19-2012 at 02:20 PM ----------

i actually like the way i did my first hat originally cause thier not really suppose to look like ears just make it seem like you have ears....perspective hmmmm......still working on it

xuvrette 06-19-2012 08:12 PM

to talk about folds and wrinkles.
do you ever notice where wrinkles tends to occur on shirt?
Did you have any reference? it is easier to learn from reference.
Is your shirt tight fit? loose fit? fabric is what type? light, heavy, hard, soft? all these affect how the wrinkle folds appear and even how you shade it.

Kilia 06-19-2012 08:17 PM

http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/5...pg_200x200.jpg

i was thinking of a between tight and between lose fitting shirt that is soft and light and my shirts are always wrinkly

xuvrette 06-19-2012 08:21 PM

The reference you have right now have rather a lot of embellishments which distract the fold and wrinkle attention. You should find other reference that allow you to see the folds and wrinkles of the shirt.
but yours is just button which is not that heavy. and where does the wrinkles occurr the most on your shirt? which part? sleeve? shoulder? hem of shirt?
Observe and study around you.
