Liliana felt the sharp tug at her arm and found herself face-to-face with Cain within an instant, before she could protest in any way she found herself immediately suffering a barrage of half questions from the Demon, however this position was one of many that terrified her, not his words, but memories of the past surfacing.
Her heart was beating quickly as she listened to him, barely noticing the grip on her arm until he began to loosen it, watching it go as drew it away. Luckily she'd kept ahold of her other items in one hand but people were beginning to give Liliana's companions rather accusing stares considering what he'd just done. She, however, placed her hand around his wrist, looking up at him, strangely not as frightened as before and began to pull him away from the crowd to find a more secluded spot, preferably with a place where they could sit down. Once they'd found a lonely location she sat down on the closest place she could find, a smooth garden all, which she then pulled Cain to sit down beside her as she smoothed her dress down a little before looking over at him, ".. I'm not human.. I would have thought that obvious.." She finally responded, crossing her hands over her lap as she gritted her teeth a little and looked down, "I'm... Well... B-believe it or not... I am a demon.. Or at least.. Partly one..." The girl sighed, looking over at Cain nervously, "My mother.. She was my demon side.. I didn't know my father.." Liliana leaned back slightly, holding her hands around her knees as she looked up, "But she did things to me.. I don't know what exactly, I just know she bragged that I was nothing like other demons... But she got mad.. Mad because I wouldn't use my powers the way she wanted me to use them. The silver marks in my body are runic inscriptions for her experimenting on me since childbirth with older runic magic. The scars came when I refused to obey... And I managed to refuse until I escaped." Liliana put her hands on top of her knees, lowering her head and in turn raising her shoulders slightly, "She wants me back.. She thinks I'll still do what she wants but I refuse! I wont be that way!!" Liliana gave a small outcry, gripping her hands into fist and gritting her teeth, choking back a small sob, "I wont.. Become the monster she thinks I am.." |
Cain glanced at the watching and disapproving eyes, then looked away, shadowing his own in slight shame at his sudden rough actions with the girl. When he felt her fingers wrap around his own wrist, he looked over at her, surprise lighting his eyes, a long with confusion. He shot one last glance at the small amount of people before getting tugged away by the teen. He followed her without hesitation or refusal. Once the two entered the quiet and safe area, he watched her sit, then sat beside her. Cain was leaning forwards, his elbows on his knees and he looked over at her. He was watching and listening intently even before she started talking. As soon as the teen mentioned the word demon, all of Cains attention was on her. He had known from the start she wasn't human, but he dared not accuse her of being so in the first place. The thought came to mind, she looked fully human, well, to him at least. "You...don't look even a bit demon. I mean, your powers say it all, but your appearance, I've never seen a demon look so...human. Even if they are partial..." He told her, examining her face for any features he may have missed the first time he looked at her. As Liliana spoke, Cain's expression softened, his hands slowly lowering to fall limp between his knees as he watched her. The thought of Liliana being some type of experiment, by her mothers hand made him shiver, wondering how much more had gone on in this girls life. The image of the scars kept sweeping over his eyes, making him glance at her back and watch it, as if at any moment the back of her dress was to fall apart, exposing the strange markings. "What...do they mean exactly?" He asked, forcing his eyes to look back at her own. Cain had one final question, but was fearful of the answer, but only on her behalf. He knew he could protect her from whatever came his way. Finally, he sat straight and said ; "...Is she who you're running from?" |
"No.. No I imagine I don't look very demonic.." Liliana shook her head, looking over at him and smiled a little nervously, "Mother fashioned my appearance as I aged, removed my wings, not that I ever needed them, took away my tail and my horns. To make me her perfect weapon she wanted all the additional points that I could be grabbed removed... However as part of my defiance of her.." Liliana held up a bundle of her hair, running her hands along it unconsciously, as she looked at him, wondering how to answer his question as to the markings. She thought on it a little trying to think of the right terms to put it in, though eventually folded her arms, leaning forward slightly, "The markings.. Do you remember when I focused those demon souls into crystals and used them to energize you..? My mother taught me that technique... It was also the technique she used after killing some lover level Overlord Class demons." She stated, biting her bottom lip. The news about Liliana's mother having the power to kill Overlord class demons was evidence of how powerful she may be. Sure Cain was probably powerful enough to also destroy lower level Overlords, but there were always the more frightening, powerful ones whom ruled several Netherworlds in the Nether-realm. Typical Overlords ruled at least one entire Netherworld on their own. "She hunted a dozen of them, choosing them very carefully, and focused them into a powdered crystalline form. This was all before I as born apparently, she then mixed it all with fresh mortal blood, virgin.. Young... And proceeded to tattoo my body with old demon magic. Her ultimate goal.." Liliana looked over to Cain, "She used forbidden magic that even demons wouldn't dare approach.. Infused me with the souls of twelve overlords, increasing my capacities exponentially... You know most demons eventually reach a limit...? According to her I have the potential to become a Supreme Overlord. It would still take years of battle.. Blood and murder, but if I applied myself to such a destructive end I would have the power to rule the Nether-realm, overtake the mortal realm and even invade Celestia," Liliana spoke this all and as she did she was holding her chest, seeming to struggle for breath, that look of terror on her face from before. She didn't want it, she didn't want power like that, life was such a precious commodity, how could she ever cause so much suffering, just to be the most powerful being in existence? When she was asked if it was her mother chasing her she looked at him, tears welling up in her eyes, one breaking off tot he side and sliding down her cheek and she nodded, "She wants me back.. What I wont do by choice she could still make me do by force.. If she gets her hands on me again.. She'll confine my sisters soul into my body.. And I will be gone.. My sister would gladly do anything for Mother.." |
Cain listened very intently to her words. Grabbing every single one as it left her lips, and locking it away. Reminding himself to piece through and through it again later. Not that he wasn't listening now. For he very much was. What this girl could do, the strength and power she had, just...waiting to be used amazed him. He could never imagine being able to do the things she could, feel the power running through his veins like she did. You could say he a was a bit jealous. As the words about her power drifted to his mind, he shivered. He couldn't imagine seeing her doing such things. Those things her mother intended of her. It seems impossible, un-believable, maybe even make-believe. 'This poor girl's in way over her head...WAY over...' He thought to himself as he leaned forward, watching her every expression pass and change with every word she spoke. Just watching her choke out every word make Cain clench ever so slightly. He could almost feel the pain behind those words, the constant feeling of...suffering. As her face lifted, finally revealing her eyes to him, his brow furrowed, watching her eyes glisten with tears. As the first tear pooled over the edge of her eye, his fist tightened at his side, swallowing a small lump in his throat. Finally, he sighed, smiling. A real smile. And it was at her. "Lili..." He sighed, the clenched hand at his side slowly lifting. A single finger caught the tear on her jaw before it could drip off. "Have you not been listening to me this entire time?" He chuckled, then grinned at her. "No matter who's after you, no matter what they want, I'm in the way. As long as you're with me, you won't be hurt. I swear on my life, alright? So stop crying, and keep your chin up. No one ever gets anywhere by turning their heads down. You'll be fine, I won't let anyone hurt you..." Cain told her, voice soft and reassuring, his finger slowly making it's way under her chin, tilting her face upwards a little. |
The girl looked up at him with admiring eyes, though her face remained a mask of sadness and fear, remembering so much and having told it all so openly had taken an emotional toll on her and it was clear to see that she wanted to cry alot more, sniffing softly, even as he lifted her chin to look at him more properly. He was so kind.. Which made hi so fascinating.. So unlike his kind.. The kind of creatures that were true monsters, but here they were, both bred by demons but ultimately not sharing their ideals.
The girl tilted her head away and off his finger, looking towards the ground but shifted closer to him, reaching around him on either side with her arms and closing her arms around his chest. She placed her head up against his chest softly, angling it down by raising it again softly, as though rubbing her face against his chest, though really was just taking into account what he had said.. Keep her chin up.. "Thank you.. Cain.." She replied, shifting her legs closer so that their thighs lined up, her hip pressed against his as she leaned in on him, sniffing again, but more quietly. It felt good to belong somewhere for once, and to feel so much more safe.. She wasn't sure if she even remember feeling anything like this but she knew just simply that if she was with him she would be okay.. "So long as I'm with you.. I'll be safe.." She confirmed, mostly to herself but then looked up at him, "So you can use me for whatever you want.. My gifts are yours.." |
The demon stiffened once the girl slid her arms around him. Like he had said before, no woman ever did things like this to him. None had the sheer confidence to give in to him like this. (Unless it was sexual.) His body was tense, eyes slightly wide as he looked straight ahead, not quite sure how to approach or respond to this action. Slowly, he swallowed the small lump in his throat, and looked down, tilting his head ever so slightly. A hand was rested on the bench behind the two. Slowly, he begun to move it. Cain sighed at his own stupidity and hesitation. 'Damnit Cain, don't be a dick, comfort the girl!' With one last non-audible sigh, he slowly lifted his hand, lightly wrapping it around her shoulders. His thumb gently rubbed her arm, pulling her closer. He felt bad for making her bring up the subject, making her cry and re-surface the pain that was already there, dwelling inside. When he heard her saying those three words against his chest, he couldn't help but let out a breathless chuckle, a small smile tugging on the corner of his lips. Lili could hear his heart beating under his chest, a soft rhythm that seemed a little faster than normal as he pulled her against him. When she lifted her head to look at him, he quickly straightened, and dropped his arm, clearing his throat. Cain shifted, then stood quickly. "Like I said, let me do all the work. I don't plan on using you for anything, I prefer not to use others." He joked lightly, still trying to regain is composure. Cain glanced around, shifting his jacket on his shoulders before looking back down at her. "So, you just gonna sit there all day? Or are we going to continue walking?" He asked, his normal tone finally taking over his voice, an eyebrow raising at her quizically. The normal Cain, was back. |
The girl blushed a little, mostly out of happiness as he embraced her with an arm, hearing his heartbeat quicken was strangely relaxing to her, in spite of the increased tempo. Though when he got up she felt a little disappointed.. She could have stayed like that for so much longer.. However he seemed oddly ruffled all of a sudden and as with him returning to his usual self she seemed to revert as well, becoming rather meek whilst she looked up again. When he asked her if she was going to sit or they would walk she immediately got to her feet, shyly standing at his side.
The young woman made sure to stay as close as he'd wanted her to before, she remembered that well enough, but now she had a reason to do so.. Even if it was just a simple arrangement.. He'd given her his word that he would protect her, she didn't need anything more, asking for this much alone would have been too much. Though she felt concern, perhaps a little fear.. The possibility that Cain would have to deal with Mother's lackeys.. Maybe even mother herself.. Yet he didn't want her abilities.. Was he really that powerful? Or was it confidence..? Even if she herself wasn't so powerful her gifts were beyond normal.. Could she really let him bear the responsibility to taking care of her alone..? It didnt seem right.. One day he'd need her help.. As she deliberated this in her head she stuck close to Cain, avoiding people generally, sometimes hiding behind him when they passed larger groups. As he'd wondered a while back, she was indeed timid, hiding from people with no real reason. Hard to believe something so scared and frightened could ever amount to such a destructive force. Secretly though, quietly, she was enjoying being close to Cain, even if she was a little apprehensive.. They'd had such a shaky start already, could he bear being close to her knowing what she was or what she could be? Did he understand the lengths, and how dangerous they would be, that her mother would go to retrieve her? So many thoughts kept surfacing in her mind.. She stopped suddenly, gripping the back of his clothes and burying her face against his back. She was realizing just how deeply afraid she was.. It was extending so far that she feared for the very man promising to protect her, what kind of unnatural horrors would she bring to him..? The girl was trembling again, an odd look of fear and realization on her face.. So many complex thoughts.. Was there even a measurement, or a word, a phrase for what had been done to her mind? |
Cain walked calmly past the others as the two continued on. He barely payed attention to Lili as she hid behind him at some moments. He was getting rather used to this type of thing from her, even if they'd only been together for a few short days. As Lili begun to grip his clothing from behind, he sighed deeply, slowing his pace. Soon, he came to a stop, turning his head to the side to look back at her. His expression, one of dry irritation.
"Lili...stop it. No one is going to jump out and hurt you in the middle of a damned crowd, okay?" He growled lightly, taking one step forward, tugging his clothing out of her grip. The demon was still looking down at her, stiffened once again as he stood before her, people passing them on ever side. "You need to trust the fact that there are good people in this world, not everyone wants to hurt a small girl like you." He told her, the growl in his voice going to a lighter level, being replaced with forced reassurance. He really did want her to be comfortable around people. This constant stopping would get them no where, and fast. The demon was also worried about other things. If someone was following this girl, stopping so much would only give the enemy that much more time to catch up to them. And, to be truthful, he didn't want that. The risks of running into someone was far too much than he was willing to pay right now. This girl was still a stranger to him, he'd barely met her and yet he was so tangled up with her already. I guess you could say it was his own fault. But WHY did he choose to help her in the first place? Was it because she was attractive to him? The fact that she was a woman? Or...something else? A need to maybe...finally help another person, who in reality, was lost on their own... |
"I'm sorry..." She replied softly, lowering her head sharply when he growled, the girl withdrawing her hands sharply and holding them close to her chest again, though not recoiling from him like she'd done the day before, though shes tayed still for a moment, swallowing hard and dropping her arms as she looked up again. Her lips trembled slightly but she sucked them in a moment and let them go, letting them relax as she cast her eyes up at him and smiled a little,
"I'm okay now.." The girl replied, slipping forward, past him to stand in front of him to the side slightly. If they needed to change direction she could look back to him, though was also close enough for him to easily grab her and redirect her while she looked among the people. She began to realize that perhaps he was right, not everyone here was out to hurt her, let alone kill her, now that she wasn't looking away or hiding her face she could see the peoples smiles, see the looks in their eyes as they interacted, had small arguments, played with each other or even laughed. The giggling of children running by and playing attracted her attention as she watched a number of them run across a junction. They were so innocent.. She wanted to play with them but stopped herself in time, looking back to Cain as she laced her fingers behind her back, angling around to smile at him softly. "S-so.. Which way are we going..?" She asked, though looked around sharply, staring ahead of herself again. It seemed as if she'd been caught on alert by something, suddenly moving forward quickly and stopping at a garden, staring at the grass and the flowers.. Like with the hotel the plants outside were dead and drained.. The girl had a sorrowful look on her face as she knelt down, brushing her hands across dead petals, but then found herself staring at the woman the garden belonged to, it seemed even she was upset by the state of her garden. The girl smiled as she channeled her energy from her body once again, breathing life into the grass and the flowers again. The other woman was rather shocked at this strange revelation as color crept across the garden once more, her wilted flowers and roses growing to new life. The two didn't speak, simply looking at one another until the woman cut one of the flowers, offering it to Liliana. She took it graciously, it was a lilac flower, matching vaguely with her gloves and heir hair, she held the flower in her hands and stood, looking about for Cain again. When she found him she hold out the flower to him, similar to when she'd given him the red marble of energy. |
Cain watched as she moved forwards before him, stepping in front of him. He couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief at the sight. Maybe she'd finally start to realize, that there's more to the world than meets the eye. That, even in bad people, some good lies. And that strangers can be good people too, even if you don't know them. Cain let the girl lead him down through the crowds, one hand gently resting on the butt of his gun at his hip.
His eyes lazily scanning the faces around him. As the children ran by the two, he glanced at Lili, and noticed her smile. The corners of his lips were tugged up wards by some warm feeling in his chest. His eyes softened and he took a deep breath. He almost chuckled, then she turned and smiled at him. A look of surprise over took his features, causing his smile to dissolve. He cleared his throat and glanced away, pretending to notice something in the crowd that wasn't actually that interesting or important in the first place. When Lili asked him in which direction they needed to be going, he turned his gaze back to her, but didn't get a chance to answer. As he looked back, the girls attention was already drawn to something else. Cain sighed and let out a breathless chuckle, watching her. As he followed the teen to the garden, he stood behind her, a few feet back. Watching as she knelt, he smirked to himself. He knew what was going to happen. The demon glanced at the woman to whom the garden belonged to, then looked back down at Lili. Cains expression brightened, his eyebrows raising slightly as he watched her work her magic for the second time. It never got old, watching something that was once dead spring back to life. To watch something so dark, something that was once beautiful, bounce back to it's former self like it was a child jumping out of bed from a sickness. As the woman cut Lili the flower, Cain's face went back to it's normal state, watching with little interest as the teen stood with the flower in hand. Once she turned to him, he moved his gaze from the garden to her slowly, his face expressionless. As soon as she held the flower out to him, his face went to one of surprise. He stood solid for quite some time, looking down at the flower quizzically. Almost as if he was trying to figure out what it was. The demon looked back at Lili, blinking his eyes in a confused manner. Slowly, he lifted a hand, gently taking the flower from her and holding it between the two. His eyes moved to it, examining it. He looked at the stem, then at her. "Don't move..." He said gently, taking another step towards her. The demon lifted his other hand, gently breaking the stem of the flower, making it half as long. He looked back at Lili, and smiled. His free hand lifted, gently brushing her hair being her ear. With one single move, the flower was slid into her hair, almost blending in. Cain chuckled, then said. "It looks better on you, Lilac isn't really my color." He teased, shooting her a playful wink. |
Liliana watched him as he took the flower, not moving as he'd instructed though was a little curious when he broke the stem then reached out at her, though a little apprehensive at first when he was finished she raised her hand to feel the flower there, though smiled again, lowering her head and staring down at the ground tot he side whilst she put her hands behind her back again, nervously shifting her leg and turning it softly so it that the toes pointed towards the same side.
Although she was already done with the flowers a look of concern cam across her face and she looked further down the road, but didn't run off this time, straightening her standing then looking back up at Cain. She raised her hands to her mouth, biting down on her left index finger as she stared at her companion before standing a little closer to him, angling her head properly so she was still looking up at him, "The one at the hotel.. And this one.. There's probably a lot of dead gardens.. The damage is too.. Specific.." She started, lowering her hand from her mouth just as she'd spoken, frowning a little, "There's a demon nearby.. It's hiding and gathering energy by sucking life from the ground bit by bit.. If it keeps this up it will run out of earth and plants to drain.. Leaving the people.." She explained this with some concern, biting her finger softly again and looking at the people around them once more.. She didn't want to imagine some demon being unleashed on innocent people when it could be stopped before it began, but what could she do.. She couldn't ask Cain to deal with it, he was already protecting her, she would only be making more hassle for him.. The girl lowered her head a little, "N-nevermind.." |
Cain's smile faded as hers did, his brow furrowing in confusion and slight concern at her sudden change in attitude. He watched her fidget about almost nervously, making him stiffen slightly. He wasn't sure what to think of her sudden change, and it made him look around cautiously.
Examining the people faces around the two. As she begun to speak, the demon looked back at her, his brow narrowing as he focused his attention onto her. What she said made a growl slowly emit from the back of hit throat, his eyes glaring at the space between them. He looked away, his eyes once again moving to the people passing by. The glare still held in his eyes. This made people who looked at him draw back in confusion or fear. Cain let out a growl, one of his fists clenching. "Those stupid demons think they can walk all over everyone and everything..." He said with a low growl, his eyes finally meeting her own. His gaze was hard and cold. "We need to keep moving, we can't keep stopping like this, alright?" He told her harshly, but more in a tone an older sibling or father would use to tell their child what was needed. Not rude. "I don't know about you, but I'd rather not be their first target. Seeing as everyone just loves to go after you." He said with a sigh and a slight eyeroll, turning to look back into the crowd. Cain glanced at her before grabbing her wrist and pulling her away from the blooming garden. He pulled the teen into the crowd, letting the two be surrounded by strangers of all kinds. "Can you sense how close they are? The must have just come around, based on that garden. Unless that had already happened..." He mumbled under his breath, but voice those words for her to answer. |
The girl swallowed a little, looking up at him int he same sense that she was a child being scolded, she figured he would be upset by her mentioning such a thing, perhaps her previous resolution of staying quite was right. If she upset him like this too often she'd lose his protection, it would be a resource wasted.. But she couldn't just ignore these people and leave them to their fate.. Not while she could see it.. The horrors that would come and the pains of it all.. But then there was Cain, she couldn't see his future, and every time she looked at the future of these people it would distort for a moment.. It gave her a glimpse of hope..
When she was pulled into the crowd she continued to look up at him, that same hope from before in her mind now showing a little on her face as she became a little happier, hopeful. Though when she thought about his question she shook her head a little, "N-no not here, too many people in the town.. B-but this demon won't be in town.. It's drawing energy from nearby so it would be somewhere barren outside of town, a naturally rocky location, maybe a cave, a cave would be best.." She explained, seeming to have a good knowledge of this kind of thing, though maybe it wasn't so much of a surprise, being the experiment of such an intelligent, if ill-intentioned woman could very well have resulted in a good education regarding the very demons she was supposed to hunt and kill for her own power, "If we could get out of town all these people wont be in the way of my senses.. So many souls.. I can't make out anything beyond the noise.." She replied, motioning toward one direction of the town, "It's quietest this way.. If we go that way I can try sensing it sooner.. But I wont be able to sense anything through the town or anything past it directly so long as there's so many people." |
The demon slowed his pace, his hand stillholding her wrist, but in a less harsh hold. He looked back at her, stopping his pace and standing in the middle of the crowded town. His eyes moved to the direction she pointed, his brow furrowing as he squinted his eyes. Trying to get a better look in the direction, tying to see what was so different about it. Cain sighed, looking back at her. "How about this, you track it, and I'll kick it's ass. Deal?" He said, letting go of her wrist to cross his arms in front of his chest. He was serious once saying this. If it worried Lili this much, put so many people in danger, he couldn't stand by and let it happen if he knew he had some chance of stopping it.
Cain nodded slightly to himself, then grabbed her wrist once more. "Lets go then." He said under his breath, pulling the teen along once more through the crowds of people. He was going in the direction she had pointed, eyes locked. But vigilant still. He was on the lookout, even if his eyes stood on one point. As the two got further and further away, Cain's pace slowed from his quickened walk, to slow steps. His eyes moved about slowly, finally glancing over at Lili. "Be my guide Lili, where exactly do you need to go?" He asked. The demon finally realized he was still holding onto the teens wrist, and he quickly let go. Lili saw his hand fall on to the butt of his gun, slightly gripping the handle. His index finger slid against the trigger as he looked forward, trying to see if he could also sense anything. Which he couldn't, at least not right now. |
"Okay!" Liliana smiled up at Cain with extra vigor, beginning to look around at the people they passed, the smile on her face stayed strong even as he dragged her along. The future of the people was changing.. Even if she couldn't see what his future held she knew one thing for certain as she kept up until they finally came to a stand still, staring over at him with a strangely softer smile,
He can change the future too.. Liliana looked around, still too many people though she was beginning to feel the world outside of the town, again she broke into a soft run down the street, trying to find a nice spot away from the people as she finally hit an exit from the town, feeling out across the landscape.. Animals.. Small groups of people here or there.. But no demon yet.. She couldn't shake the feeling that there was a demon though, it was too obvious, "One of the reasons I cant sense past a life sign is because my mother wanted me to sense everything close by. Every target for me to kill and drain of their energy and every threat that might try to hurt me, when there's too many souls there's to much noise in my senses for me to look past.. I'm sorry but I cant find the demon on this side of town.. So.. I'll draw it out.." The girl ran further out, no less than twenty meters before she hit her knees by a dirt road, the trees looked like they were dying in this location, this would be perfect.. She raised her hands for a moment then hit the ground. The shocking part was that the ground shook momentarily. It wasn't that she was strong, but the ground shifted, seeming to solidly first before softening, the dry earth beginning to get a texture of darker brown. The grass nearby seemed to invigorate itself with life, yellowing blades going green. The trees old frail looks beginning to gain new life, dead bark becoming solid, its many leaves shuddering and stretching out as they grew with new energy. The healing effects of her abilities were beginning to grow grass along the round, spreading out form her in pulses as she fed more and more energy into the ground. She was turning her head occasionally, trying to task herself with finding the demon as well, sooner or later it would feel this new energy, a large source just outside of town that it could come drain if it wanted.. But was it clever and could see the trap..? Or was it so greedy that- "There...!" Liliana looked in the opposite direction, she jumped to her feet and ran back to Cain, hiding behind him as she pointed in a specific direction among the trees, "It's coming from there..!" |
