Mythos and I are watching John Cleese in Rat Race at the moment. Did you know that he voiced the butler in Fable 3?

True story.

Cardinal Biggles 11-22-2013 05:52 AM

Oh man, my favorites. Um. Dennis Moore, definitely. The Bishop. The Cycling Tour. Science Fiction Sketch. The Queen's MacKamakazi Highlanders. The Semaphore Version of Wuthering Heights. Oh man, so many!

I don't think I've seen Rat Race, but I rewatched a Fish Called Wanda the other day!

And to be on topic- I haven't seen any of the reunion stuff for MP yet but I'm sure I'd enjoy it... I've loved most of their old work.

Cardinal Biggles 11-22-2013 06:13 AM

Goodnight, Wyrm.

I am wondering what they have in store for us...

People all over England will be menaced once again by pepperpots and slappy fish!

Same... each of their particular types of humor have kind of matured in the time that they've been apart.

Ethos 11-22-2013 06:16 AM

one of my first python.7 language projects was to make a hangman game...
The solution I chose was "pepperpot" only because it was in python. [heart]

*I just subscribed to this thread, Mythos :) *
*Monty Python, Asgard, and great company*

Mythos 11-22-2013 06:42 AM

I'm off to bed as well.

[hug] Night everyone!

That's very true. And It's not that I think the argument that comedians lose their edge as they get older is particularly true, but there was something about the kind of comedy* the did that drew itself from the vigor of youth. I'm wondering what they will work on translating...

*The kind of comedy they did was very specific I think. People say that they broke women down into two categories in their comedy: the sexpot and the pepperpot. And it's not that it's not true, they did. But the kind of comedy they were doing, especially as a male troop (Carol is a gem, and she doesn't get enough recognition, but that's an aside) just doesn't lend itself to having real women in it. They have to parody, because their comedy is of the absurd variety, and... they have no personal experience what it means to be a woman. If they were just to work a real, smart woman in to be a full fledged comedic character, they would fail. Going back to Carole, I remember reading something about how they had several women they took on for trial when the show was starting out, and it just kept falling apart. The women didn't understand what they were trying to do, and the fellows didn't... know how to do anything else. But Carol was a match, they all just clicked.
This isn't like a great argument in their favour. Their women aren't nuanced or real. And that's a shame. I'm just saying I think I get why they weren't able to do that.

That is a good thing. [:)]
Thanksgiving is fast approaching.
I have to work that day, but I still am looking forward to the
turkey and fixings.
Then, Christmas will be here before we know it.

PrincessKasumi 11-22-2013 09:50 PM

When I see Asgard... I keep thinking..

They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard-gard-gard...

The hobbits the hobbits the hobbits to Isengard! to Isengard!

Cardinal Biggles 11-23-2013 01:16 AM

I have no idea what I am doing for Thanksgiving. Other than watching the parade, obvs. Could get myself a tofurky.
Man, being an adult is weird. Holidays used to be my thing, especially Thanksgiving. Now I'm all "Oh, what?"

Wyrmskyld 11-23-2013 01:26 AM

We finally found out my uncle's family is coming to Thanksgiving after all... which means we have to plan, and then Wednesday we get the crazyfun day of cooking. I'm looking forward to it. I love to cook, especially for a large group.
