Yeah I'm gonna keep them, they're just going to be a little difficult to work with. And there's a few darker pixels on the left sleeve, I haven't really messed with the shading too much, just checking to see how it'd look.

A little more progress on the dress... I don't know if it's the palette or just me but I'm having a bit of trouble shading it.

linapoo 01-10-2015 02:46 PM

Ooh the sweater is turning out nicely. It looks really good on the tan base XD

Hmm, I think the palette is also pretty hard to use. XD Some of Mene's palettes are pretty horrible in transition..haha
For that shape of dress, it would probably be better not to use so much shading on the bottom of the dress, or at least not as many pixels high.

Maria-Minamino 01-10-2015 02:47 PM

Is that the sea green palette? It sucks. If you want to continue using it, I suggest modifying the shades a bit - for example bring the darker shade up a little bit ,etc.

We don't have many items in that palette because it's so hard to work with XD

HamletSpamlet 01-10-2015 02:50 PM

Yeah, it's the sea green. [cry] I'll change to a different palette then, I just chose the color because it was similar to my inspiration. And I'll fix the high hem pixels. :D

I just changed to Winter and already it's looking less like ass [boogie]

For me, I don't think it is the palette...
The dress looks flat to me, I am suspecting it is that shading is not deep enough.
Which colour do you start with shading? Cause there are no 'highlights'.

Highlight don't necessary means metallic SHINE.

HamletSpamlet 01-10-2015 04:32 PM

It is very flat, I didn't get too far because I was having trouble pulling the shading outward without it looking harsh. I'm gonna rework it with the new palette though. I start with the 2nd lightest color.

xuvrette 01-10-2015 06:01 PM

and the fold lines show that your shading and line may not be in sync.
the skirt portion under the arms, avatar's left.
Studying the curve of the skirt hem, the depth of the shading should be deeper. the more curve of the hem, it should have more shading to show that it is a CURVE shape. less shading, means flat.

HamletSpamlet 01-11-2015 04:15 AM

Yep, I agree. I just need to rework it now that the darker colors aren't such a sharp contrast to the light ones.

Maria-Minamino 01-11-2015 02:23 PM

Xuv - It's not that the palette was making it look flat - the shading wasn't done XD But that sea green palette is just SOOO contrasty...it's almost atrocious. XD

I think the move to the blue was a better choice. Now the shading needs to be finished :)

HamletSpamlet 01-11-2015 03:36 PM

A little progress on the dress:

I'd really appreciate critique on this and the hoodies. :D

xuvrette 01-11-2015 04:22 PM

lol. I didn't click each pixel to see whether all the palette shades are there. XD So I assume Hamletlet had finished shading. XD
Nor do I remember all color palettes. XD

On another note about design. I think you can add more details on the collar or sleeves.

HamletSpamlet 01-11-2015 04:25 PM

It's ok, Xuv I got what you meant. Just know that anything I'm posting is most likely not done!

The collar and sleeves of the dress? What do you mean by details?

xuvrette 01-12-2015 11:55 AM

Details as in... frills, collar, ribbons... all kinds of designs.

linapoo 01-12-2015 04:37 PM

have you tried recoloring the hoodie yet?
recoloring in common colors helps me a lot when i need to see if i need to edit any shading :3c

mmm the dress is turning out cute! i do have a problem with the folds not aligning from the top and the bottom. XD but that's just me.
if you were to do that, I'd expect there to be more folding thus more shading in those areas though, like what you have near the left arm.

also with the crease in the chest area, it makes the fitting look tight, so maybe some more folds around the arm pit area. you could also just open up the arm hole so that tension eases up if you didn't want to put folds in the armpit area.

HamletSpamlet 01-12-2015 06:19 PM

Ah, yeah that middle fold is off isn't it? I'll fix that asap. And I'm having trouble making the chest folds look decent, I didn't think of adding wrinkles to the arm though, that's a good idea. :o And I sorta wanted to keep the dress simple, Xuv, but I'll test a few things.

I'll try recoloring the hoodie as well~ Thanks for your suggestions, guys. [heart]
