Runa heard the bell over the door and habitually glanced over. She grinned when she saw Kyra and waved her over.
"Look what I found," she said brightly, hamming it up a bit. |
"A couple lost puppies in our diner," Kyra said dryly.
"Hey!" Dean bristled up a bit, moreso when Kyra smirked. |
"Puppies?" Sam asked, looking a bit more amused than Dean, but still slightly affronted.
|
"Your hair is floppy enough," Kyra pointed out as she slid in next to Runa. "You could be a puppy."
|
"A puppy," Sam repeated. "Interesting."
Runa just grinned and snickered a bit. "So apparently there might be a job in the area," she said to her friend. "These two are after it." |
"I assume by in the area you mean somewhere in the state," Kyra said.
"Just barely." "Well it's not a huge state to begin with so that shouldn't be far. You need help?" |
"Ordinarily, no," Sam replied, looking over at her. "A few vamps isn't exactly something we'd call people in on."
|
"Isn't ordinarily," Kyra pointed out. "That implies there's something abnormal about this particular circumstance." She paused. "Well. More abnormal than normal."
|
"A friend of ours called and asked us for some help," Sam said. "Runa offered to take the vamp hunt off our hands."
|
"Shouldn't be a problem," Kyra agreed. "I do hope you're not going to make this a habit, though. I like my house, it is nice and comfortable and mine, and I don't like leaving for long."
|
"The vamp problem is local, no worries," Sam said. "Not far, maybe next town over. As far as we can tell, anyways. We think they're holed up in one of the abandoned barns."
|
"That would make sense. No one around for a ways, decent cover during the day, not often checked, still accessible by vehicle." Kyra nodded. "Sounds like a good place to start."
|
"If you want the case, it's yours," Sam said. "Otherwise, we can take care of it in a couple days."
|
Kyra looked at Runa and shrugged. "I'm up to it if you are," she said.
|
"Sure," Runa said. "We haven't had a decent job in a little while." She grinned a bit. "That thing at the town hall in Middletown doesn't count."
|
"No, it doesn't," Kyra agreed.
"Great." Dean grinned and rubbed his hands a bit when a waitress came over to get their orders, and after he ordered he glanced at the girls. "Our treat if you want to stay, since you are taking care of that little thing for us." |
"Cool, thanks," Runa said. She grinned and then looked at the waitress. "Hey, Kate. Grilled cheese and soup?" The waitress nodded and wrote it down, then looked at the others.
"The, uh, club sandwich," Sam said, handing his menu over. The waitress nodded again and wrote it down. |
"The Mediterranean omelet for me," Kyra said with a brief grin. The waitress nodded and went to go put in their order.
|
After the quick dinner, Sam dropped a tip on the table and stood up.
"Come on," he said to Dean. "We should see what has Cas so worked up." He looked at the girls. "Sure you'll be okay taking on the vamp job?" "No problem," Runa said after a moment. "We can handle it." |
"We'll let you know when it's taken care of," Kyra said, stretching a bit. She hadn't missed the reference to Cas, but her reaction had been less extreme than Runa's, and she was able to hide it quite easily.
"Well, good luck," Dean said as he stood. "Until next time." He nodded to the girls and left with Sam to go see what Cas wanted. |
The hotel wasn't far away at all, and they made it back in minutes. Sam wasn't surprised to see Castiel there waiting for them.
"Hey, Cas," he greeted as he walked in. |
"Why are you stopping here?" Cas asked as he looked at them, his gaze settling on Dean, as it normally did.
"Cas, we've talked about this. We have to eat. And sleep." Dean dumped a bag on the floor. "Besides, thought we might visit some other Hunters in the area." "Other Hunters?" Cas's brow furrowed a bit, because last he'd heard, not many people were fond of the boys. |
"Yeah, there's a pair in town that we ran into last time we were here," Sam replied. "They don't hate us, at least." He barely even noticed that Cas kept his gaze focused mostly on Dean; it was typical, really, and he was just waiting for them to realize that they had it bad for each other. "Anyways, what did you need?"
|
"There is an artifact," Cas said. "A few hundred miles from here. It is imperative it be returned."
|
"An artifact?" Sam asked. "Any idea what it is? We need to know what we're looking for."
