Sam studied him for a moment before shrugging. If it was important, they would find out about it. So for now, they would head out in the morning to get their hands on the horn he had mentioned.
As Kyra had expected, the vamps were not a problem to take care of, so she and Runa got to head home the next evening to take showers and get some nice comfort food.
Or at least that was the plan. |
Runa showered to get all of the grime off of herself, and then filled up the tub to relax in the hot water for a while. She'd been slammed into at least four walls on the hunt, and her muscles were starting to complain.
"So now what?" she called to Kyra. "We've gotten the attention of Castiel himself. How do we know if this is a good or a bad thing? Have you heard anything on Angel Radio?" |
"Not really," Kyra said with a little shrug. "Nothing abnormal, anyway. Just the normal talk of souls and artifacts and stuff." She stretched out a bit, rolling her shoulder, which had been bitten. "I think we're okay for the moment."
"Alright. Keep a metaphysical ear out. I'll keep an eye out and see if there's a rise in demon activity," Runa said. She stretched a little and relaxed into the water.
"Will do." Kyra headed back to her own room to take her shower and relax for the night, heading downstairs to cook something.
So when her angel radio suddenly went silent a little after midnight she was instantly on alert, scanning the area around the house warily. |
Runa noticed when Kyra went on alert, and she also started to scan the area.
"Kyra?" she asked. "What is it?" |
"There's nothing," she murmured. "I can't hear any of them. I don't know if it's because they've all shut up, or..." She let the sentence trail off, because she knew there were ways to block her from hearing the angels. But that meant someone else knew, and the only person who did know was Castiel. Well, shit.
"Or if we're actually in trouble," Runa finished. Swearing under her breath, she grabbed her knife and gun, making sure she had her wallet and phone, just in case. They'd had to run in a hurry before.
Kyra also had a knife and gun, although she did pause and tilt her head when one message came through. That message made her pale, and she swallowed a few times before she could speak.
"I'm being told to turn myself in to help the war," she said quietly. "There's an implied "or else" at the end." |
"What? No," Runa said. "They can't do that. They haven't given two shits about you until now, so why would they care now whether you're in the war or not?"
"I'm an extra soldier and I've got precedent of killing that one angel, remember?" Kyra grimaced. "I knew that was going to come back and bite me in the ass one day."
"Hey, I helped you with that," Runa pointed out. "You weren't alone then. By that logic, they should take me too." She looked at her friend. "How long till they try to drag you back?"
"Twelve hours, give or take?" Kyra shrugged. "Depends how quickly they become impatient. But they've guaranteed me twelve hours to make my decision."
"Twelve hours." Runa bit her lip, thinking. "We can work with twelve hours." She dug in her pocket for her phone and started scrolling through her contacts.
"What are you doing?" Kyra asked, glancing over at her. "What, are you gonna call your friend from the library to come help us out?"
"No, he can't help with this," Runa said. "But I think I know who might." Finding the right name, she hit call and hoped Dean would pick up.
"Yeah?" Dean knew who was calling, he was just a little surprised. They normally only called each other about cases, after all.
"You're calling Dean?!" Kyra hissed, looking alarmed. |
"Do you know of anyone else who has regular contact with an angel?" Runa hissed back to Kyra. "Because I don't." She turned her attention back to the phone. "Dean? It's Runa. I have a quick question." She tried to play it off as casual, and mostly succeeded. "This is going to sound a bit weird, but humor me. How do you hide from an angel?"
"There's sigils," Dean said cautiously. "I don't know how well I can communicate them over the phone, though." Especially since he didn't have that X-Ray handy. "Why? What's going on?"
"Sigils, right," Runa murmured. "I might be able to google those." She shook her head a bit. "I'm not sure yet," she lied. "Hoping it won't be necessary, but better safe than dead, right?"
"Right," Dean agreed. "I can ask Cas to help you guys out, he's the one that made us invisible in the first place."
Runa flinched slightly.
"I was kind of hoping you would know how it worked," she hedged. "I mean, I figured you and Sam would know best, having fairly regular interactions with him and all..." |
"We don't really know the symbols, they're... kind of hard to see." Putting it mildly. "And we haven't come across anything else in our research." Dean paused for a moment. "Why, you have a problem with Cas?"
"Not a problem, per se," Runa said carefully. "It's a bit... personal. Look, I'll see if I can't google what I need or something, I'm sure there's some moron out there who got his hands on the genuine article without realizing it."
