Artist Questions: Answer and Ask

Artist Questions Ask Prompt
(Original prompt by Reblogger-Ocelot)

I saw this prompt on tumblr and thought it was a great way to learn about other artists and
their process and, surprisingly, a great way to learn about your own process in ways you
may have not realized before.

If there's a burning question you'd like to ask others and isn't listed, let me know!

How it works:

The newest post will list a number/question. You must answer this one question!
You can make it as short or long an answer as you'd like. Please don't do the entire
list of questions or choose a different question. If you've already answered the question
before or don't want to answer a particular question, please wait until a new post with
a new question pops up.

After you answer, pick a new question from the numbered list in this first post for the
next poster and add it after your answer (it should be at the bottom of your post).
Please copy/paste the entire question so that new posts/readers won't be too confused
and have to come back here to figure out what is being asked. :D

The Questions:
  1. When did you get into art?
  2. What art-related sites have you ever signed up for?
  3. Show us your oldest piece of art you have on hand.
  4. What defines your artistic style?
  5. Do you practice other styles/have you tried other styles in the past?
  6. What levels of artistic education have you had?
  7. Show us at least one picture you drew or sketched recently that you did not put on a public site.
  8. What is your favourite piece that you have done?
  9. What is your least favourite piece that you have done?
  10. What do you like most about your art?
  11. What do you like least about your art?
  12. Have you ever considered taking commissions?
  13. Are you looking to pursue a career in art?
  14. What do you like drawing the most?
  15. What do you like drawing the least?
  16. Do you draw more fanart or original art? If fanart, what fandom do you draw the most of?
  17. What would you absolutely refuse to draw?
  18. What is your purpose for drawing?
  19. What medium/program do you use the most in your art?
  20. How would you rank your art? (poor, mediocre, good, etc.)
  21. Do you believe there is such thing as “bad art?”
  22. List at least one of your “artspirations.”
  23. What do you think you could stand to improve on?
  24. Do you have a shameful art past? (recolour sprite comics, tracing art, etc.)

Next poster- Please answer 17: What would you absolutely refuse to draw?
[poke][insane]

Cora 12-07-2015 12:03 AM

Alright then, I'll play.

What would I point blank refuse to draw, the obvious answer is anything sexually graphic, but I doubt anyone would even want to see me try that one [rofl]

21. Do you believe there is such thing as “bad art?”

Kent 12-10-2015 01:58 AM

Hmmm, hard question. XD Yes, I guess so. Especially when people try to sell art that looks like it was drawn quickly and could've very well been drawn by a kid. > o>; But I believe even simple art like stick figures can look good if thought/effort was put into it. > 3<

Aesthetic-wise? Dunno- I like the clean linework? [huh]
More than anything, I enjoy the act of making and the relief afterwards more than the result 75% of the time. Its like hearing the victory music begin blasting after a particularly rough RPG battle.

Do you practice other styles/have you tried other styles in the past?
My style has sort of evolved over the years, I rarely draw anything with a specific purpose in mind anymore. So most of my artwork comes in the form of doodles that I do while I'm in meetings at work >.>.

I guess I have a style, but then it sort of changes regularly as well. Lately I've been experimenting with different angles to draw people at. Particularly drawing peoples backs, dunno why, but I never had so the angle was sort of weird for me at first so I experimented.

I'm not sure if that really answered the question or if that was me rambling luls.

This one is a toss up for me, you see I love drawing eyes. Weird probably, but when you look at my notebook you'll find I've absentmindedly drawn eyes all over the place. That being said, I also love drawing hair. Hair was something that I spent years perfecting, but now I love drawing the flow and cadence of hair.

What do you like least about your art?

Kat Dakuu 06-20-2016 01:09 AM

Answer: That fact that mine hasn't changed in some time. Not much improvement and not much change in style. I've been wanting to draw more expressive eyes since mine are plain, but it never comes out.

Nephila 07-04-2016 09:25 PM

Hmm my oldest art on hand. Let's see what I can find. This was something I made for a rp on Gaia before I left... so like 2000-2003 back in the day when I had time to rp. XD

What is your purpose for drawing?

Shadami 07-12-2016 07:35 PM

My purpose for drawing is to challenge myself into improvement. To find joy in just sitting peacefully and working on art. It's calming. And than of course, bringing joy to others who receive art. Comissions are my favorite because of this, and it gets me the added bonus of making some cash. xD

I've never drawn anything using a mouse nearly as good as that so I am just super impressed! :D

Kent 07-21-2016 01:39 AM

Hmm, what do I like the most? Well, I like how clean my digital art has been turning out. Guess I like how my faces and hair turn out too~ Sometimes. > o>;

I got into art when i was really little. So little i can't remember. I grew up with it. My dad is an artist to. As far back as i can remember I was doing things with art and the arts. watching him paint or draw. Or doodling pictures myself.
