Evening ascends. A full moon peeks out from behind the blackened clouds as it climbs the Halloween night sky. A ghostly fog, chill as the icy touch of death, crawls down from the Menewshan moors, snaking its misty tendrils along the grounds of the solemn pumpkin patch.

The crunch of leaves. The snap of fallen twigs and two darkened figures emerge from within the gloom. Into the moonlight steps the cat and the rabbit. Innocuous on any other night, on this night, blood stained and matted with gore, they are envoys of Hell!

“He better show up, blockhead.” The cat frowned. “I’m missing tricks or treats for this.”

“Don’t worry, Belly, the Mighty Pumpkin Spirit will be here!” The rabbit smiled. “Every year, on Halloween night, the Mighty Pumpkin Spirit…”

“You mean the Great Pum....”

"No no! I mean the Mighty Pumpkin Spirit, which is a wholly original character and certainly not trademarked by the Charles Schulz estate.”

The cat rolled her eyes. “Whatever.”

“As I was saying… Every year, on Halloween night, the Mighty Pumpkin Spirit rises from the Menewshan Pumpkin Patch to reward gold to the good boys and girls who give the best offerings.”

“What kind of offerings?”

The rabbit swept his arm along the pumpkin patch. “The carved and gutted corpses of his offspring. Their fleshed rended and twisted into hideous visages of malevolence.”

“Woah, that’s kinda f-ed up.”

“He also accepts drawings.”

“And to two lucky children whose tribute he deems the most worthy, he bestows upon them the almighty gift… of two bottles of hooch.”

“Yeah... that is definitely one f-ed up spirit.”

You may have seen me once or twice haunting the forums, popping up in threads with my special brand of nonsense. You may also know me from my critically acclaimed, Emmy® award winning show Captain Howdy’s Geriatric Dance Party. And you may also know me from your basement, where I hide at night… waiting for you to fall asleep.

Ho there, Menewshans! I'm BellyButton, your whiskered and flea-ridden Pumpkin Patch co-host. When not busy swabbing the poop deck on Captain Howdy's majestic sea vessel, I enjoy spending time chasing mice, sleeping in windowsills, rolling in catnip, and hissing at people who try to pet me.
