Greetings! Welcome to Menewsha's annual Pumpkin Carving Contest Thread. :D

This year we have expanded things a bit: We've added a category for decorated skulls, we have art templates for you to color if you wish, and we will also be accepting freestyle crafted entries (so, you won't need to have an actual pumpkin to carve or an actual sugar skull to decorate). We're even giving you extra time to get stuff done and entered! [eager]

You'll find contest guidelines below, but if you have any questions please post them here & I'll get them answered ASAP. Thank you, and have fun!



All Entries Due by the End of the Halloween Event

For Decorated Pumpkins

Each person may enter up to three (3) pumpkins
These can be carved pumpkins, colored template art, and/or created from other media as you wish.
Example: crochet, clay, sewing, etc.

Your username must be included in any photos you submit
A simple way is to write it on a slip of paper & lay it next to your entry.
Please don't edit it in afterward, as that just makes the photo look tampered-with.
If your username translates well to a name-image I'll accept that as well. Example: Longcat

You do not need to choose a category for your pumpkin
We will sort them into categories prior to judging.
Depending on the number of entries, they may be also divided into such subcategories
such as Spooky, Cute, Menewsha-related, Abstract, etc., so that more prizes can be handed out.

Please tell us if you used a commercial stencil with your carving
We'll put stenciled pumpkins in their own category. :3

For Decorated Skulls

FAQ
Q. Why did you post this thread so darn early? The event doesn't start for weeks.
A. The #1 complaint we get for pumpkin carving threads is that folks' pumpkins have already decayed by the time the event starts. Our main complaint for art and craft contests held during events, especially when they coincide with a real life holiday, is that people don't have enough time to make anything before the deadline. We're hoping that starting the thread super early will make this contest more accessible for folks. <3


Q. Why do I have to put my username in the photo? Don't you guys trust me?
A. Because images of carved pumpkins, sugar skulls and other Halloweenish decor are prominent on the internet, the temptation to cheat, for some, is too great to resist. Having your username present before snapping a pic with your creation not only tells us that your work is your own, but also protects your image from other folks easily claiming credit for your work elsewhere.


Q. May I do a freehand drawing instead of using the art templates?
A. Yes, you may, just make sure there's a pumpkin or skull in there somewhere. :)


Q. May I carve something other than a pumpkin?
A. Yes. Since so many people are wanting to do this, go ahead and carve whatever you can get your hands on. I'll group entries into like categories prior to judging so it's fairer for folks. (ie, pumpkins won't have to go up against miscellaneous vegetables, etc) [yes]

Mermaid Inspired. More specifically h20 just add water and mako mermaids from netflix. Did my best to make a realistic digital pumpkin, hence the attempt at the glow of the mermaid and writing carved into my painted pumpkin!

I've always wanted to carve a pumpkin! We rarely get those special orange pumpkins in Australia.. well where I live anyway.
So uh.. would a carved watermelon be accepted? Hahah.

You're welcome to carve alternative melon- or gourd-like things if pumpkins are not available where you are. :)
