To Train Them Is My Cause
“Good, good, keep going,” Calypso called as the young junior trainer worked with a Goldeen. “You need to know exactly what Goldeen can do, and Goldeen needs to be able to trust you completely to call the shots in any situation.” She shifted a bit, watching the two as they faced Cal’s own Lucario. Lucario was acting on its own for the moment, since it was just a training exercise.
Allegra nodded, calling out more instructions to Golden.
Tony sauntered into the gym, looking around and leaning back against a wall. Just to observe for a bit. |
Lucario just defended against Goldeen. The power difference between them was too great for Lucario to risk attacking, and Goldeen wasn’t really able to hurt it much anyways.
Calypso grinned a bit and decided to switch things up. “Lucario! Switch out! Vileplume, you’re up!” Lucario nodded and jumped quickly out of the ring, and Cal’s Vileplume went in. Cal nodded, and watched to see how Allegra would react. |
Allegra blinked, momentarily caught off-guard at the switch up. Then she shrugged and went with it. "Okay, Goldeen, easy now. Keep going."
Cal nodded. Good. Allegra was reacting well. She glanced around as Allegra worked, and paused when she saw Tony. Oh great.
“Allegra! Take five. Check on Goldeen, see if it needs any healing,” she called to her trainee. With that, she went to see what Tony wanted. |
Tony grinned at her. "Having fun?" he asked, still the picture of ease.
Cal sighed.
“Mr. Stark, what have I said about dropping in unannounced?” she asked. “Especially when I’m training?” |
"I didn't interrupt," Tony countered. "I stayed quiet until you called a break."
“Mr. Stark, it’s not safe for someone to be here without me knowing,” Cal replied. “We sometimes work with destructive moves. I really can’t have you just showing up without a word beforehand.”
"I was fine," Tony told her, waving a hand. "Anyway, I'm inviting you and newbie up to the tower tomorrow. Want to show you some things, give you some things. All the fun stuff."
Cal sighed and pulled out her phone. She shot a quick text to Pepper about Tony showing up, and then turned her attention back to him.
“You want me to come to the tower?” she asked. “It’s a bit close to the start of the season. Do you want me to start intensive training early or something?” |
"No, I'm sure you've got that well in hand," Tony said, shaking his head a bit. "No, I've got other reasons. Tomorrow. After noon, I have a thing at 11 that Pepper will kill me if I miss."
Cal sighed.
“Okay,” she said. “I’ll be there.” |
Tony grinned. "Great. It'll be fun. Invite your sister if you want, I've been meaning to properly meet her."
Cal looked at him.
“Why?” she asked. “My sister isn’t a professional competition trainer.” |
"No, but she works with you, and from what I hear she's impressive in her own right," Tony said with a shrug. "Besides, I have someone she can talk food with."
“Okay, fine, I’ll call her,” Cal said. “I’ll see if she can make it out, but no promises.”
"Yes, yes," Tony said, waving a hand dismissively. "Anyway, I have to get going. I'll see you tomorrow."
Cal waved and let him go, instead turning back to where Allegra was supposed to be working. She already had her phone out and was sending a message to her sister.
Tomorrow afternoon, we're expected at Stark Tower. |
We? What is this we nonsense? You're the one he's sponsoring. Alice frowned down at her phone, rather confused by that.
Don't ask me, Cal replied as she kept an eye on Allegra. He just specified you. Said he had someone for you to talk shop with.
Alice made an annoyed noise but didn't protest. I'll see what I can arrange.
I’ll spring for breakfast in the morning, Cal added. And have you met my junior trainer yet?
Not this newest one, Alice texted back. So I suppose I have that to look forward to as well. I'll just make sure Chance has everything she needs before I leave.
See you in the morning then. With that, Cal turned back to Allegra and resumed their training session.
