http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...orycontest.png Nothing Says "Thank You" Better than a Heartfelt Story Hosts: Enzeru, Winterwolfgoddess, Zombie Pixie Welcome to The Giving Tree's story writing contest! With the National Novel Writing Month coming to a close and the Month of Giving just around the corner, it is only natural to have a literary contest focusing on the goodwill of everyone. Storying telling has been a major part of cultures for many generation. Stories have inspired and helped us get in touch with our ancestry and background. Using the power of words is a great way to show your appreciation to those who have helped or given to you in the past. |
Rules *Kindness is King* Be considerate of your fellow beings. *Cheaters Never Prosper* Anyone caught using another person's literary property will be disqualified. *Uphold The Higher Law* Follow all ToS regulations. *Your Best Foot Forward* Submit one good story for this. Please do not post more than one. You may edit it up until we post the announcement we are judging. After that please no more editing. *Be Yourself* No mules please. |
Story Topics Acts of Kindness We want you to write us a story that involves acts of kindness. It doesn't have to be a true story, use your imagination and get creative. Giving Thanks We are asking you to write a story telling us what you are most thankful for. What your most thankful for can be a person, animal, or even a place. |
Scoring and Criteria The scoring of this contest is split up into five equally weighted categories: Literacy, Creativity, Content, Organtization, and Style. Each category is worth a total of two points for a total of ten points per judge. The person with the highest score wins. All judges should PM their scores to one of the hosts of this thread as soon as possible once all entries are in. Prizes First Prize: Astral halo and sleepy melodies harp Second Prize: Spirit set Third Prize: Glaciar headset and Winter’s flight Contest Deadline All entries/revisements are due at 3:00 PM EST on December 4, 2008. Literacy Are there errors in grammar or spelling? We are not going to count this against you if you make one or two mistakes. If we see consistent errors, however, we will take take points off. Be sure to use spellcheck and/or get someone to proof-read prior to sending in your entry. Creativity Is the story original? Does it keep the readers attention? We are looking for something original, not just a copy of someone else's work. If we find out you have plagiarized, not only will you be eliminated, you will be reported and dealt with properly. Content Did the writer stay on topic or did they go off on a tangent? We want a story about good deeds, apprecation, kindness, et cetera. Not your two front teeth. Organization Are the topics clearly and logically presented? Did they slap words together or did they actually try? We would like to see stories that make the point clear without going in a bajillion different directions. What we are trying to say is don't start off on one topic, cut it off with another one, and then pick it back up in some random place. Style How does the writer address the prose? How is the writer's diction? Basically, how is the writer's writing style? If you ever have to write an essay in a literature class, you know what I am getting at. Don't beat a dead horse into the ground. Being wordy can be a real turn off. Vice versa, unless you are the next Ernest Hemmingway, being too nondescript can be harmful as well. |
