Happy Hanukkah <3

Anyone here on Menewsha celebrate Hanukkah?

hummy 12-23-2016 08:37 PM

I don't but doesn't it start tonight

Dottie Mae Evans 12-23-2016 08:51 PM

I don't, but it would be nice to be invited to a Hanukkah celebration or dinner. [heart]

hummy 12-23-2016 08:53 PM

I love the story behind Hanukkah

So do I. I use to know a lot more about Jewish Culture and Traditions till I moved out of the semi-Jewish neighborhood. Dx!

Ouch!!!

I had a friend who was Jewish and I always asked a million questions. She didn't approve of me, being Catholic and all. her son shouldn't be fond a of non-Jewish girl. but the dinners were just beautiful to me.

I love Chanukah! :D

My grandmother was Jewish (although I didn't know it until after she'd died.) .

But this year my family and I are going to a Chanukah parade in the city that starts with the lighting of the public menorah and then leads to the synagogue where there will be latkes and a music and dancing and such. C:

Dx! The Jewish people I know/knew were kind and didn't mind me being Baptist. I asked a few questions and they answered them. I just never got invited to a Hanukkah Celebration. Dx!

I use to watch a lot of the PBS kid friendly specials about Hanukkah. I did mention I use to live in a semi-Jewish neighborhood. Over the years, the population changed a little. I remember the kind old Jewish ladies that I use to say hi to while walking home from the grocery store with my great aunt. [heart]

Shadami 12-26-2016 06:42 PM

i don't think i actually know anyone jewish o.o my knowledge of hanukkah is shaky at best, if there is anyone who celebrates i'd love to know more :] Ava do you celebrate?

what is that thing you said?Ba-Ruch-a-tah-adonai?

Tom Hiddleston 12-26-2016 09:55 PM

Ava said, "Blesséd is the Lord, Our G-d" in Hebrew.
It's typical to bless the menorah before/while lighting it.

Shadami 12-26-2016 11:26 PM

why thank you Hiddleston :D that is indredibly helpful ^^

Roxxxy 12-26-2016 11:27 PM

I don't celebrate anything.
But when someone tells me Merry Christmas, I answer with "I'm Jewish". And a dead stare.

Shadami 12-26-2016 11:37 PM

but you don't celebrate anything? and I like to say happy holidays cause i never know what people celebrate. I usually say merry Christmas if its obvious that they celebrate it, or if I'm auto piloting like i did often when I was working as a cashier. xD

Kory 12-27-2016 12:05 AM

My parents make a big deal out of saying, "Merry Christmas" AND "Happy Holidays" but really, they like saying, "Merry Christmas" the best. They feel like people are too easily offended and they don't care if they piss people off by saying "Merry Christmas".

I love my parents, but I feel like they can be kind of assholes sometimes.

Shadami 12-27-2016 02:41 AM

i'm not worried about offending people, i just really want to acknowledge that everyone celebrates different things. xD i want to bring a smile to someones face every day ^^

Kory 12-27-2016 06:57 PM

That's so precious, Shadami. :)

Nephila 12-27-2016 09:31 PM

Aww this is sweet. <3

Happy Hanukkah

Symphony of the Night 12-30-2016 04:50 PM

I think people should just say whatever they celebrate.

For example, if I say Merry Christmas to my Jewish friend, he wishes me Happy Hanukkah.
