Liztress' Pixel Workstation- Always Looking for Advice!

I love the idea of having a thread to keep all my pixel attempts in one spot. Hopefully, this will also motivate me to put more effort into trying different items for both the female and male bases.

Critiques are always welcomed. And no, I won't think you're being mean if you think something needs a bit of tweaking to it. I mean, how else would I know what to improve?

I want to note that for the current work post, I will only use the [img] tags for my latest stage on each item. All other stages will be posted as links.

Hey, Xuvrette. :)

xuvrette 03-30-2012 12:10 PM

hiya. how is the pixeling?

Liztress 03-30-2012 01:02 PM

When I get to doing it, it's good. I need to make a point to sit down and at least get more done to the shirt. And start shading the dress.

lunanuova 03-30-2012 01:38 PM

What program do you use Liz? :) Great work so far, can't wait to see more.

xuvrette 03-30-2012 02:20 PM

Have you search for pixeling tutorials?

Liztress 03-30-2012 03:05 PM

I use Gimp. And thanks. I'd love to get as good as the others.

I've looked at the Kawaii Hannah one. I need to find one to help with the wrinkles.

lunanuova 03-30-2012 03:28 PM

I have Gimp! I was searching whether you can use it for pixelling before.. but I'm not completely sure how. It works though? That's good.

Liztress 03-30-2012 03:33 PM

Yeah, I think it does a good job for pixeling. I think it works almost like PhotoShop but with a different interface. You could probably use the paint program for pixeling as well. But I'm so used to loading Gimp up for anything image related.

Maria-Minamino 03-30-2012 03:34 PM

To be honest, I us MS Paint. I think most programs are pretty good for pixelling :D

lunanuova 03-30-2012 03:36 PM

I would try out using MS Paint, but I now have a Mac. And I already downloaded GIMP since it's good for image editing. Does anyone have any good links to starting out in pixelling or the basics?

Maria-Minamino 03-30-2012 03:38 PM

@Luna - that makes sense! Then gimp is a good program for you!
KawaiiHannah's tutorials are the best I think...here is a link to her beginning pixel art tutoial:
KawaiiHannah: Pixel Art, Pixel Doll Bases, Pixel Art Tutorials

Liztress 03-30-2012 03:40 PM

KawaiiHannah's got some good tutorials. *nods*

And I'm trying to fix the wrinkles. Does this look better?

Maria-Minamino 03-30-2012 03:42 PM

@Liz - I think they look too....parallel. I like their position a bit better before. Hmm - have you tried doing the wrinkles as a shaded color rather than a highlight over there? I think on that side it would be darker and then add a small one on the other side in a highlight?

lunanuova 03-30-2012 03:54 PM

Thanks!
I'm having a little play on Gimp. I really want to learn, because I love all the ideas and art people are making!
Liz: I agree with Maria, maybe it should be darker, it looks great!

How many shades does one piece of clothing/colour usually have?

xuvrette 03-30-2012 04:04 PM

To study on the 'wrinkles' on the dress, maybe you should take a look on how real life clothes folds.

Maria-Minamino 03-30-2012 04:11 PM

@Luna - mene uses 5 or 6 shade palettes. I usually use 6 shades - it allows a little more depth in my mind :D

Jeannesha 03-30-2012 05:08 PM

Hiya Liz!
I'm just posting right now to bookmark this so I can keep up on it.

I can try that.

*bonks head* I didn't think of that. Dx Silly Lizzy. Thanks, Xuvrette! Don't mind my occasional blonde moments.
