Marian Harris looked out the window of her car. She hoped to be getting home soon, since it had been a long day. She didn't like the long commute home, but she couldn't afford the apartment prices in the city. She hoped this trip would be uneventful.

Mike worked for his father at the Sofa Showroom, it was a warehouse outside of town and usually took a long drive to get him anywhere. His car was an old truck that he often used to help transport setees and sofas around to different clients, he hated working in retail but most of all he hated working under his dad.

Marian kept driving. She sort of liked her job as a paralegal, but it was the same thing every day. She hoped that tonight would be better and she could get some rest. She kept her eyes on the road, just in case something was to jump out in front of her.

Mike unlocked his car and pulled out of the warehouse carpark and onto the long strech of road ahead of him, it was an easy drive home, but it was also a rather deserted strech of road with no one around for miles, hardly anyone drove allong it but you always had to keep your eyes out for animals and deers. He smiled to himself at how it looked like the perfect horror scene.

Marian didn't like how queit this road was and that there was no cell phone service. She feared one day she would break down and have to walk to get help. She kept driving hoping she would be home soon.

Mike continued down the road quite a distance until what he thought was a deer ran out in front of him, it moved so fast he wasn't quite sure what animal it was. He swerved sharply and hit a rather large rock at the side ot the road. He heard a loud hiss sound come from his right tire on the front and the car slumped to the right. His car began to move sluggishly so he stopped and applied the handbreak. He hopped out of his truck to observe the damage.
Mike swore as he looked at his flat tire. He'd just taken his spare tire out of the truck a week ago to fit a huge three seater suite in the back. He kicked his truck angrily, but ofcourse that wasn't going to help. He knew he would have to fix the tire. He could see the rock that he had hit, it was huge, and the tire on the front had been torn. He knew his tires neede replacing a couple months back but he had put it off. New tires were expensive. He needed to phone a recovery truck. |
Marian saw a truck on the road and stopped. She had a feeling this person needed her help." Do you need help?" She asked once she got out of the car.

Mike sighed heavily and turned to the female. He was pretty annoyed but he managed to be polite, "Hey um, well yeah but I just really need to get my tire fixed, its dark and I'm really far from town i can't get a signal on my phone to call anyone out."

" There is no signal on this road. Do you need a spare tire? I have one in my trunk." Marian said , hoping she could help out .

Mike peered into the darkness. "It's not going to fit on my truck. Its the wrong dimensions."
He thought for a moment, "Hey you couldn't drive me into town could you? i could get a signal there." |
" I can! I could take you to the repair shop and you could get help there." Marian said, hoping to help.

"Oh!" he said, "That's a much better idea, stupid thing, my truck that is." He laughed, "Yes please." He pulled out his wallet and looked at the stack of notes in there." Remind me to cover your fuel costs." He said with a smile. He didn't want to take advantage of her kindness.

"Alright. " She said. " I'm Marian by the way. " She said with a smile and offered her hand.

"... Mike" He responded and shook her hand. He smiled at her, he was lucky he was found by some pretty girl rather than a beefcake in a truck. He wondered why she was so trusting of him. Most girls wouldn't let themselves be allone witha guy they didn't know but it wasn't like Mike was going to try anything. He was too shy for that.

" It's nice to meet you Mike. We better get going. The garage closes in about an hour." Marian said . She was glad she could be of help to someone today.

Mike nodded his head and hopped into the passenger side of her car.
"So uhm, tel me about yourself?" He said trying to make light conversation, he always found it awkward in other peoples cars. |
" I'm a paralegal in a law office downtown. I like my job, but I don't like the commute. What do you do?" Marian asked as she drove.

"Oh law, so you're like really intellegent?" He laughed, "My job sounds pathetic to yours, I sell sofas I work for my dad, its not fun but i make money. I get commision. If you ever need a sofa I'll get youa good deal most of them are good condition second hand ones, and we do deliver. Or atleast we would if my truck was running. Atleats I wasn't on a delivery."

" I'm not that smart. I still have to pass my bar exam before I'm a real lawyer. Your job sounds interesting. I bet you get to meet many people." Marian said.

"Oh you could say that, but its so boring some days we only have one or two customers." He shrugged, he really didn't enjoy his job, he had so many ideas as to how they can sell better but his father never listened to him.

"Still it sounds better than sitting at a desk all day doing research for other peoples cases. " Marian said as they drove into town. " We're almost there. " She said happily. Though she would miss his company.

He smiled, "Oh great, you'll have to give me your number so I can sort out paying you for your troubles." He said as a cheap way to ask for her number.

" Alright. " Marian said and wrote her number on a piece of paper. She hoped she would see him again. " Here it is. " She said with a smile.
