Word Puzzles for All Ages!

Knerd 04-12-2012 12:04 AM

Overview:
Knerd will release a new word game every day.
Each game will have three different levels of difficulty: Easy, Medium and Hard.

Just try to solve as many puzzles as you can!

When you think that you've completed a puzzle (with 100% correct answers), then PM it to Knerd. She'll look it over and keep you in mind for prizes. ;)

But be careful - Once you PM a puzzle to Knerd, you can't take it back or fix it! Make sure you're completely certain that it's been solved correctly and completely.

Rules:
The rules here are pretty simple:

- Do not post any of the answers anywhere. Posting answers within this thread, on any Menewsha forums, within PMs, etc will get you barred from this contest.

- Do not cheat by sharing answers or hints with other users. That just wouldn't be fair, now would it? If you are caught sharing answers before the contest is over, you will be barred from receiving any prizes.

- Be a good sport. Some of these puzzles will be incredibly easy while others will be mind numbingly hard. Please don't taunt others who are having difficulties or have gotten stuck, otherwise karma may just come around to bite you!

- Stay positive! Saying that the puzzle is difficult is one thing, while constantly whining and complaining about how the challenge is unfair is quite another. Try not to be a wet blanket.

- Follow all of Menewsha's Rules and TOS.

Prizes
All prizes will be given out at the end of the event. :yes:

500 gold will be given out for every puzzle that is submitted with 100% correct answers!

1,000 gold will be awarded to each user who has correctly completed a puzzle from each day of the event! Any difficulty level may be submitted as long as the user has completed every variety of word game.

And 8,000 gold will be awarded to any user who has submitted all of the Hardest Difficulty level puzzles without a single error!!!

Not enough for you? Then it's a good thing that some mystery prizes will be given out to participants as well.

Past Puzzles

Day One: Word Search!
Words have been hidden vertically, horizontally, and diagonally in these grids of random letters. Your job is to find and circle each word! Print out the sheet or use your favorite image editing program to highlight every word that you can find.

There is no word bank provided. All words are at least 3 letter long. Pay attention to each developing theme - If you find a short word that doesn't fit in with the others, chances are that it isn't a correct answer.
Send Knerd the final image, not the list of words you found. :yes:

Day Two: Boggle!
Use these random letters to form as many words as you possibly can! Search for words that can be made from adjacent letters (where "adjacent" cubes are those horizontally, vertically or diagonally neighboring). All words can be either singular and plural, but cannot use the same letter cube more than once per word.

Find as many words as possible - People with the most words will be rewarded!
And be sure to list your answers alphabetically. ;)

Hard! Words must be 4+ letters long

Day Three: Cryptograms!

Time to break the code! Each one of these messages has been encrypted using a substitution cipher: Each letter in the original message has been replaced with a different letter of the alphabet. Your job is to translate it back into English using the two clues!

SPOILERX

Easy!
LCJFSY LMBEL EMRP YBW HRS WB EFPM R WJRN RSW WFJPQ EBJTW.

Hint #1
F = I

Hint #2
R = A

Medium!
TWZ CDZY ZYJ OTBI, DH CDZY ZYJ CTT.

Hint #1
J = E

Hint #2
Z = T

Hard!
XCB PI C TPEAI DUCAV ED LQJ CRXCMCH.

Hint #1
A = U

Hint #2
B = Y

Day Four: Word Morphs!
Change one letter from the starting word in order to form a new word. Continue on to create a chain that links the first word with the chosen ending. The challenge is to complete it within a certain number of steps.

Sample:
Head -> Foot
Five steps

Head -> Bead -> Beat -> Boat -> Boot -> Foot

SPOILERX

Easy!
deer -> fawn
7 steps or less

Medium!
bird -> erns
6 steps

Hard!
seed -> crop
5 steps

Day Five: Polygons!
Here's another chance to test your vocabulary! Make as many words as you possibly can by combining letters from the polygon, with all solutions containing the letters (in order) within the center.

Letters can only be used as many time as they appear in the puzzle and each word must be at least 4 letters long. You may rearrange the letters however you like, so consecutive letters in a word do not have to be touching each other in the polygon, but the center letter/s must always appear next to each other in the given order.

The users who submit the longest lists of verifiable English words will get the prize. Remember to alphabetize your words. :yes:

I'm glad your doing this again, I had so much fun last time.

Would it be wrong for me to say I find all of these pretty damn easy? :ninja:
I'm sure they will get harder for each day though~

Cora 05-19-2012 07:04 PM

Indeed I am. Plus, I was always really good with word searches, so why would I not have the confidence? :yes:
