❀ The Wallflower Corner ❀ A Place for Shy Shamrocks ❀

Late to the party! Been a bit busy with pesky things like work and reading and watching anime! Oops.

Anyway, who's gonna eat Corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day?

Dystopia 03-16-2015 05:51 AM

... I keep hearing about this corned beef, but I never knew it was traditional St. Patty's day food.

hummy 03-16-2015 05:53 AM

it's ewww

Dystopia 03-16-2015 05:54 AM

Is it? I've never had it.

For-Chan Cookie 03-16-2015 06:02 AM

Don't listen! I love corned beef. It's on the salty side, because it's brined in salt and other seasonings. But if you get a good cut of meat, it's nice and fall apart tender with a bit of fat. And I love cabbage, potatoes and carrots, stuff you traditionally serve it with, so it's right up my alley. Om nom nom.

Moonlit Freedom 03-16-2015 06:10 AM

My hubby told me today he wants to make it.... bleh... no thanks, he can make some but I won't be eating it.

For-Chan Cookie 03-16-2015 06:15 AM

You guys are party poopers. [gonk] If you like salty meat, corned beef is worth a try. If you don't like salty meat, stay away.

Moonlit Freedom 03-16-2015 06:16 AM

I've tried it before, and I don't like it. [sweat] More for y'all who like it!

For-Chan Cookie 03-16-2015 06:20 AM

Gimme your corned beef and give it to me now!

Moonlit Freedom 03-16-2015 06:21 AM

*hands you over what she has* Shush, we're not telling the hubs.

For-Chan Cookie 03-16-2015 06:23 AM

*mouth too stuffed full of beef to tell anyone anything* :D

Dystopia 03-16-2015 06:27 AM

I'm definitely open to trying it. I like meat.

jupiter 03-16-2015 06:33 AM

I think I'd like it more if I did it myself, but I always have it at someone else's place. It's too fatty and oily, and the vegetables are boiled until there's nothing holding them together. I think it's just a case of bad cooks.
Sort of like meatloaf; a great potential, but no one seems to cook it right.

For-Chan Cookie 03-16-2015 06:39 AM

I think it's definitely easy to mess up. If you gon't get a cut of meat with the right fat to meat ratio, it's either too dry, or too fatty. I'm used to the boiled veggies, but I'm sure there's other ways to prepare them. I've heard great things about Alton Brown's corned beef recipe where you brine the beef yourself, but I have yet to try it. It's on my list of things to prepare one day. :D

Dystopia 03-16-2015 07:03 AM

Ohhh. Once I went to a buffet with great meatloaf. I wanna go back. I couldn't stop eating it!

For-Chan Cookie 03-16-2015 07:15 AM

I like to make my own meatloaf. I think school lunches as a child sort of made me wary of other people's compressed meat dishes.

hummy 03-16-2015 07:17 AM

i love meatloaf

Dystopia 03-16-2015 07:18 AM

Aha... I've encountered some sketchy rubber pizzas in my life.

hummy 03-16-2015 07:21 AM

i stuff it with red pepper,
corn, onions and BBQ sauce
then more BBQ sauce on top

For-Chan Cookie 03-16-2015 07:23 AM

Oh yeah, the rubbery school "pizza" lunch. Bleh.

Hummy's meatloaf is too adventurous for me! I know it pairs fairly well together, but I'm really not a fan of hamburger and corn together.

Dystopia 03-16-2015 07:24 AM

Not enough meat. D:

hummy 03-16-2015 01:25 PM

i LOVE it
so more for me! [yahoo]

Dystopia 03-16-2015 08:57 PM

AHA. You're an artist! Are you gonna reopen your art shop?

For-Chan Cookie 03-16-2015 09:10 PM

And more corned beef for me since hummy doesn't like it!

@Dystopia? - Who? hummy?

Dystopia 03-16-2015 09:13 PM

... Good grief, I posted in the wrong thread. I'm so sorry. xD
