Lovely banner made by Yan

Celes Paradi is upon us and it's time to have a Celes-bration! Just because we are traveling through time doesn't mean we can't stop to throw an awesome party. We need the help of our fellow Menewshans to plan it though... seeing as we were busy poking buttons and hurtling through time and space.

We'll need things to honor all of the beautiful goddesses: Song, Feast, and Dance. So, put your thinking caps on, pull out your notebooks and pencils and start planning party features!

If you would like to read up more on the legend of Celes Paradi to help with ideas, click here to visit the library.

The best part of any party is the awesome dessert to finish off the night, right? Maybe that’s just me and my love for food. Still, we should still plan something truly spectacular for this Celes-bration. What do you think it should be. An ice cream cake? A cake the size of a pyramid? Or should we make sure the dessert is something that Xeox and Boq Boq will enjoy?

Find your sweet tooth aching? Here's some ideas:
  • Make your own dessert and take a picture of it to share. (Don’t forget proof)
  • A nice quick and easy google search for some tasty dessert
  • Provide a recipe (Don't forget the quote tag [quote][/quote])
  • Or mix and match the options, just remember only one entry per day.

I have decided to offer up honey cakes!

HOWEVER with a twist, due to the lovely aliens blasting the ancient Egyptian world through time, several adjustments have been made, with access to new, high tech space kitchens, the simple honey cake has been elevated to nouvelle cuisine levels, with decadent precision cut slices, if each layer is but a centimeter off the dish will be ruined! Certainly I assure you this masterpiece of old and new with be ideal for serving to the perfection that is our lovely goddesses!

(this image is simple because its awesome! A wall paiting of people eating honey cakes!: http://cdn.history.com/sites/2/2015/...gyptian-E.jpeg

Alexandrian grilled fish
Like our Egyptian interrogator, this recipe looks more frightening than it is. But follow the Kitchen Countdown and take it slowly, and you will sail through. And the salting of the fish makes it firmer and harder to overcook. If in doubt, underdo it.

Serves 4
2 fillets of pollock, roughly 500g each
1 tbsp sea salt

For the dressing
2 heaped tbsp chopped coriander
3 green chillies, deseeded and chopped
Green parts of 1 bunch spring onions, chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 tsp ground cumin
Juice ˝ lemon
2 tbsp olive oil
Watercress, to serve

1 Lay the fish on a tray, skin-side down and sprinkle the flesh with salt. Allow to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Rinse quickly and dry well. This will firm up the texture and improve the flavour. Preheat the grill.

2 Blend together the dressing ingredients in a liquidiser or using a hand-held blender.

3 Line the grill pan with foil and place the fish skin-side up on it. Place under the hot grill for about 5 minutes or until the skin has browned.

4 Turn the fish over and brush with the dressing. Place under the grill for another 2-3 minutes. Check the fish and keep basting with the dressing. Grill for another 2 minutes or until the pollock is cooked, which will depend on the thickness of your fillets.

This seems fit for the goddess of feast and our celestial visitors. [:)]

There's also a couple of sides to go with it, if anyone is interested.

Authentic Greek Pasticcio

Ingredients
Meat Sauce
2 tbsp olive oil
30 g butter
1 onion large (red or white) chopped
1000 g ground veal or beef
1 tsp nutmeg ground
2 bay leaves
black pepper
2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp allspice
1 tbsp tomato paste
500 g tomato passata (uncooked and strained tomato puree)
100 ml boiling water
Pasta
boiling water salted
2 tbsp olive oil
750 g pasta Pasticcio pasta no. 2, long ziti pasta or lasagna sheets
15 g butter
Béchamel Sauce (improved)
2 liter milk
120 g flour (see notes)
80 g butter
2 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/8 tsp nutmeg grated (about 3 or 4 grates)
50 g Kefalotyri cheese grated (or Romano Pecorino or Manchego) (see notes)
Add while Assembling
50 g Kefalotyri cheese grated (or Romano Pecorino or Manchego) (see notes)

Instructions

Meat Sauce
1. Pour olive oil and butter into a hot pan over a high heat
2. Add chopped onion and continue to cook about 5 minutes until the onions are translucent.
3. Add ground veal or beef meat and cook about 5 minutes until brown all over.
4. Add nutmeg bay leaves, allspice, salt and pepper and continue to cook one minute.
5. Add the tomato paste and tomato passata. Continue to cook a few minutes.
6. Add water, mix and reduce heat to low. Continue to cook covered about 5 to 10 minutes until you have a thick sauce consistency.

Pasta
1. Fill two-thirds (2/3) of a pot with water. Add olive oil and salt. Bring to a boil.
2. Add the Pasticcio pasta or lasagna pasta. Cook about 3 to 4 minutes less than time indicated on the pasta package. The pasta will still be a bit firm, as it will cook further in the oven.
3. Strain the pasta.
4. Add a little butter so the pasta doesn't stick to each other. Put aside.

Béchamel (improved)
1. In a pot, mix with a whisk the milk, flour, butter, eggs, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. All ingredients should be cold or at room temperature. Make sure to stir frequently to prevent lumps.
2. Put the pot over a medium heat on the stove. Continue heating and stirring until you see small bubbles on top.
3. Reduce heat and continue stirring until you reach a sauce consistency (like pancake batter). Remember, the sauce will probably thicken a little more when baking in the dish.
4. Remove from heat. Add the cheese and mix.

Assembling the Dish
1. Preheat oven to 200°C (390°F). Butter lightly a baking dish.
2. Add half of the pasta on the bottom of the baking dish. Sprinkle a couple pinches of grated cheese.
3. Add all the meat sauce on top of the pasta. Sprinkle a couple pinches of grated cheese.
4. Add the remaining half of the pasta on top. Sprinkle a couple pinches of grated cheese.
5. Pour all the improved béchamel sauce on top. Make sure everything is covered with the sauce.
6. Put baking dish into the oven. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until lightly brown on top.

Serve and enjoy!

Entry: it was only after being catapaulted through time that our weary travellers realised they hadn't got a stitch to wear! Therefore, they turned to cladding themselves in what they could find on boq boqs ship. Naturally they were drawn to the golds of their culture but....with such technology - why not flaunt that also!?
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...or-concept.jpg https://i.pinimg.com/736x/ed/47/e9/e...an-fashion.jpg

And, boq boq and his crew became inspired by their charges efforts, and for this auspicious night, embraced their charges style!

Upon hearing the music of ancient merkheti, one of boq boqs crew became inspired, the saw how the music of both cultures could intertwine and decided he would bangarang the party to pieces. With the rave lights and the heavy beats the ancient peoples gold adorned costumes became like glitter balls, a truly sensational affair!

The ancient egyptians, as I'm sure the Merkheti drank beer daily, it was their staple, and of course I am sure the aliens would wish to put their esteemed guests at ease with a flavour of their land. However, when shown the dull brown tinged drink, they frowned, how could this be worthy of their grand party!? So, they did what comes naturally to a futuristic space alien, they got molecular, they broke down the drink in to its elements, and reduced it to what appeared to be the clearest azure blue liquid, as for ice, well, when another seemingly innocuous liquid is poured in to the drink it immediately freezes in an elegant swirl. Surely this will amaze the guests!

Here we have just for fun, a wall mural of egyptians enjoying their beer:

The Promise of Spring

a november leaf,
you turn it over anew.
lying in wait,
you murmur and coo.
dead grass beneath,
it’s just outside of your reach.

the sky fogs over,
dusting the earth and the air between.
you don a new coat,
soft, white, and pristine.
the cold becomes your lover
as the sun hides under cover.

your hands are shivering
like sapling branches in the wind.
flakes of snow grace your knuckles,

not meaning to offend.

no leaves left to fall

for bitter cold has taken them all.

the snow promises to melt

this season will pass

you think, you pray, you hope

before you break,
a frozen lake like glass,

your thoughts may bloom,

an escape from this endless gloom.

but a blue sky hides

above a sheet of grey.
you long to shake off your winter coat
day after shorter day.
your patience is ebbing

as gossamer snow becomes your bedding.

a season of dormancy,

you can almost taste the new beginning.
spring on the tip of your tongue
as the earth keeps on spinning.
dead grass beneath,

it’s just outside of your reach.

Proof: Ok, I'm really nervous about sharing this, because it's my own personal poetry, so please be gentle ;-; (also it's the wrong season because I wrote this a while ago, i hope that's ok...)

Go And Catch A Falling Star - John Donne
[Go and catch a falling star,
Get with child a mandrake root,
Tell me where all past years are,
Or who cleft the devil's foot,
Teach me to hear mermaids singing,
Or to keep off envy's stinging,
And find
What wind
Serves to advance an honest mind.

If thou be'st born to strange sights,
Things invisible to see,
Ride ten thousand days and nights,
Till age snow white hairs on thee,
Thou, when thou return'st, wilt tell me,
All strange wonders that befell thee,
And swear,
No where
Lives a woman true, and fair.

If thou find'st one, let me know,
Such a pilgrimage were sweet;
Yet do not, I would not go,
Though at next door we might meet;
Though she were true, when you met her,
And last, till you write your letter,
Yet she
Will be
False, ere I come, to two, or three. ]

The aliens have really out done themselves to end this party with a bang with a beautiful cake which represents all they have learnt about merkheti on their adventure together. However, cheeky xeox in her experimental nature decided to leave a surprise on the inside, a rainbow marbled filling!

I have decided to offer up honey cakes!
Quote:

Many tomb paintings from ancient Egypt show Egyptians feasting on what archaeologists think might be a type of honey cake. These may have been a dessert dish called folded pie. The simple pastry dough was created using wheat flour, warm water and salt, and then fried in oil and filled with fruit, honey and nuts.

Proof:What a better way to start of Celes Paradi than with a stardust-covered Popcorn? The stars themselves would give this popcorn a 10/10 (not the ones who were turned into stardust to make this, though). [drool] This is an image from google.

Shadami 08-18-2017 04:33 PM

All this food getting posted is making me hungry. though that could be on account of it being lunch time.. ^^;;;

Those poor stars that got turned into stardust :O hope they're okay... er... taste good? xD they're probably not okay anymore.

Nephila 08-18-2017 05:55 PM

So many options. Lemme think about this one for a while.

Shadami 08-18-2017 06:07 PM

Of course. I figured i'd make it open for creativity, and easy enough to use google when someone doesn't have enough time to do something else :]

Linnea 08-18-2017 08:27 PM

i'm posting here to remind myself to enter this later tonight!

Shadami 08-18-2017 08:28 PM

Gordon Ramsey! Very cool, I hadn't thought of listing food making on YouTube as an option.

Dystopia 08-19-2017 02:51 AM

They split the video into three shorter videoes, but they should autoplay in the correct order. I can add Parts 2 and 3 to my entry if that'd be easier tho.
