What was the first anime you watched?

What was the first anime series you got into? For me it was technically pokemon (which I still love lol at least the first couple of seasons), but the first show I watched when I started getting into anime was Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl.

The first anime I watched was probably Pokemon when it was on television in the U.S. Either that or Digimon, Cardcaptors (Cardcaptor Sakura), or Sailor Moon

For-Chan Cookie 12-30-2015 08:54 AM

I really couldn't say, but it was probably an oldie that got brought over like Speed Racer and later on Voltron. The first anime that I watched and was aware that it was anime was waaaaaay back in the day when the SciFi channel (back when it was SciFi and not Scyfy). They had a Saturday morning anime block and I saw stuff like Akira, Project A-Ko, Venus Wars, and more. I fell in love with Project A-Ko and then Sailor Moon soon came along and that was an obsession. The rest was history. Anime is an obsession from which I have never recovered XD

Ranma was the first anime I watched.

I wouldn't say it was the first one that I "got into," but I think the first animes that I encountered were Sailor Moon and...one of the Gundam series. I was introduced again by a friend when I was in middle school, and was utterly entranced; I think it was Inuyasha. I had never seen anything like it.
Turns out that I was raised on it, though, but never made the differentiation between American-styled cartoons and anime. From My Neighbor Totoro, to a special version of The Little Mermaid, I guess it was party of my early life.

The Wallflower was my first... though i think i did watch a bit of Sailor moon when i was a kid but i don't think that counts hehehe
Then I watched Chobits... It was nice and cute but Fruits Basket has stolen my heart [:D] [heart]

Pokémon. I remember my mom would take me to the movie store sometimes (we didn't have cable) so I would pick out the same Pokémon movie every time.

I was only exposed to anime because I move to Ann Arbor. I went to a sleepover for a friend's birthday and she was showing anime. And it happened to be Ranma 1/2.

CookieMonstahh 10-05-2016 12:15 PM

I guess Sailor Moon and Pokemon were technically first since I watched those at a really young age, but I count YuYu Hakusho as my first official anime that I really got into! YuYu Hakusho, Inuyasha, Kikaider, and FullMetal Alchemist were the three series that suckered me into anime~ xD

Kirin Rosenbaum 10-05-2016 12:33 PM

Kurama is my favorite character from Yu Yu Hakusho.

CookieMonstahh 10-07-2016 10:38 AM

Oh? xD I always loved Hiei, he was my favorite until the Chapter Black saga when I fell in love with Sniper~ °^° he was so cool, like that typical badass pretty boy who gives no shits about anything. Too bad he was merely a side character... T^T

I also loved Karasu, Yusuke, Botan, ShiShi, and... I can't remember his name but he was Kurama's childhood friend and ex partner in crime (he was from one of the movies x.x).

Kirin Rosenbaum 10-09-2016 03:33 PM

I am a Kurama girl all the way. Though it could be because I've always been partial to foxes.

For me it was Speed Racer but did not know. it was a anime at the time till later on I found Sailor Moon

fishyfey 10-25-2016 04:39 AM

Gundam Wing and Sailor Moon. I still think Gundam Wing is one of the best anime out there tbh.

Kirin Rosenbaum 10-25-2016 10:30 AM

Oh Gundam Wing is very amazing.

MusicEmo 10-29-2016 01:49 AM

Technically was Sailor Moon, then Naruto. My first subbed anime was Fruits Basket. My first "Serious" (ie non comedy, for adults) anime was Kara no Kyoukai (If you are sensitive to gore don't even google this anime).

I have a lot of what I consider "firsts", but I won't list them all.

Kirin Rosenbaum 10-29-2016 01:51 AM

The first anime I fell in love with was Yu Yu Hakusho.

Chickie Nuggs 11-07-2016 04:43 PM

Like most 90s kids, my first anime is Sailor Moon. Closely followed by Dragon Ball.

Kirin Rosenbaum 11-08-2016 12:32 PM

Mine seems to be one of the only ones different. I didn't see Sailor Moon till much later on in my anime watching life.

I am quite similar in regards to my original anime. I believe my first was quite likely Voltron. It is certainly one of my earliest memories I have regarding an animated series. I loved that show when I was five. The first shows I watched, that I was aware were anime, were Final Fantasy Unlimitedand Soul Taker. I watched DBZ when I was a high school student and got quite into it, but for most of my time watching it, I don't believe I realized it was anime. I am not sure if I really recognized anime as a genre back then at all. I lived a little bit of a sheltered life. [lol]

I need to binge watch Cowboy Bebop.

Apicula 01-20-2017 06:39 AM

The first two animes I watched fully knowing that they were anime were Princess Nine and Trigun.

Baseball Anime and Space Westerns. Seven year old me had a broad range of interests.

Kirin Rosenbaum 01-21-2017 03:56 PM

That's awesome. I love Trigun.

Apicula 01-21-2017 10:05 PM

I rewatched Trigun a few years ago and that show totally holds up. The story is just so good.

Kirin Rosenbaum 01-22-2017 01:42 AM

And the animation/art style is amazing. I'm a huge fan of Cowboy Bebop.
