Assassin - It's a Bloodbath in Here!

http://www.menewsha.com/img/banners/...3ceb214fc3.gif

Walking home from work late one night, you get the distinct feeling that you're being followed. You glance behind, but only a single circle of light is visible around the last street lamp you passed by. Darkness creeps along the sidewalk and grows ever denser.
Intent on getting home as quickly as possible, you quicken your pace.

Were those footsteps? You think you heard someone behind you, yet the second you stop walking, so do they.
Is this simply paranoia?

You start to run. Fear makes your adrenaline surge. Only now do you see a dark figure chasing after you, desperate to keep up as your strides
quicken in tempo with your beating heart.
You leap around the street corner and sprint towards your apartment building.
Only a few more steps. You'll make it, you know you -

Bang!

It's seems you've fallen victim to an assassin.

Knerd 10-12-2008 03:11 AM

Do you have what it takes to be a successful assassin?
Or will you be struck down in the dead of night?

This game will decide.

Overview
- October 27 - October 28will be designated sign-up days. During this time, if you wish to participate in the Assassin Conspiracy, you will send me a PM with your username.

- When sign-ups have finished, you will receive a PM from me that contains your victim's name and a codeword.
For example: I could be given Bob's name and the word "coffee." He would get UniqueUserName & "newspaper," and UniqueUserName would get BritneySpears666 & "sidewalk", etc.

- The object of this game is to make your victim type out that word in one of their posts.
If they say that word, then you've "killed" them.

- After sending me proof of your kill, you will then get their victim's name & word and will try to kill this new person.

- If you happen to be killed, I will PM you your obituary. Your victim will then be assigned to the user who assassinated you. Your time in the game has ended, may you rest in peace.

- This will continue until we have a single Master Assassin or until time runs out.

How Can I Prove My Kill?

So you've killed your victim: Now what?

After assassinating your victim, photograph the scene. AKA:
Screenshot the entire webpage on which you found the codeword and do not edit it.
Send this to me in a PM along with their username, their codeword, and the URL of the page that the post can be found on.
After confirming your kill, I will send you the information for your next victim.

For the sake of simplicity, feel free to use this format:

HTML Code:

[b]My Username[/b]:
[b]My Victim's Username[/b]:
[b]Codeword[/b]:
[b]Screenshot[/b]:
[b]URL[/b]:

FAQ

Can I Know My Codeword? Can I Know Who My Assassin Is??

No and No.
Knowing your own codeword would put your assassin at a horrible disadvantage. It would make you invincible and would ruin the game. Do not ask me.
And assassins are meant to be shadows in the night. True assassins will never be found, never be identified, never even been seen. Besides: If I told you, they'd kill me!

However: If an assassin slips up and somehow reveals themself to you, that is their own fault. They must not be very good at their job.

I'm not going to post! That'll keep me alive! But is that allowed?

No.
In order to play this game, you must post consistently throughout the event and give your assassin a fighting chance. This means signing in and posting in our forums at least 5 times per day. If this is not possible or if you need to take a vacation, PM me.

If I find that you have been hiding in the corner and keeping your lips zipped, I will PM you one warning. If your activity does not improve, you will be scratched off the list. Your assassin will count it as a kill and they will receive your victim.
This is what we call a "suicide." Do not let it happen to you.

My victim isn't posting! Help!

PM me. Tell me the name of your victim, your codeword, and how long it has been since they last posted. I'll take care of it.

In the mean time, look through their old posts and blog entries. Maybe you'll hit it lucky!

I found the word in my victim's blog! Can I use it?

Yes, you can!
If the word occurs in any of their past posts, threads, wall posts or blog entries, then it counts towards the game. Screenshot it!

I found the word in my victim's PM to me! Can I use it?

Sorry, but no.
I do not have the power to check PMs. I would have to trust your word, but with the power of Photoshop I'm afraid that your honest face just isn't enough.

Ha, I tricked them into quoting a post that had the word in it! Does that count?

Sadly, I'm going to say no. Your victim did not actually utter the codeword, they simply quoted it. This does not count as a kill.

What Word Variations Count?

If you find the words in the plural form it still counts.

If the user has added only one extra letter (like an s or y), then it counts.

If the user has used it as a compound word (like the codeword is "rail" and they said "railroad"), then it does not count.

If the codeword is a noun and you find it as a verb or adjective, then it doesn't count. That's too much of a stretch.

None of the codewords are chat. They need to spell them out in order to be killed.
But here on Mene, I don't see this becoming a big problem. We support literacy in all our forums, especially during events.

I Can't Find My Victim! Who the Heck is This Person?

To search for your victim, look at the URL at the top of your screen.
Enter in the following URL:
http://www.menewsha.com/forum/member.php?username=

At the very end of the url, after the equal sign, type in your victim's username.
It'll look something like this:
http://www.menewsha.com/forum/member.php?username=Knerd

That will bring you straight to their profile!

Announcements / Hints & Tips

Sign-Ups Are Now Closed!

The contest is now in full force.

If you have any questions, post them right in this thread.

Waffle 10-27-2008 10:54 PM

This should be fun <3 but shouldn't there be a date limit to 'past posts'? Cause that seems too big of an advantage.

.Simplicity. 10-27-2008 10:56 PM

Omgshh, this looks like so much fun!
*instantly joins*
XD

Ferra 10-27-2008 10:56 PM

@Waffle: However, when you take into account that searching has been disabled during the event, you'll have a heck of a time digging through all of their past posts anyways. ^^;

Waffle 10-27-2008 10:57 PM

homg. it's disable?! = u= I like a challenge <3

Hadsvich 10-27-2008 10:59 PM

This sounds like fun. =3

Winterwolfgoddess 10-27-2008 10:59 PM

>.< This event seems really fun. ^^

Also, unless it has been fixed, you can't search peoples past posts. xD Atleast I could not last night.

Ceridwen_Crystaline Ikoda 10-27-2008 10:59 PM

This sounds rather glorious. xD Hopefully I'll find time to sign up and play.[/size]

M i n u x e 10-27-2008 10:59 PM

Aw ya, searing is disabled o_______________o
Oh well then, guess the whole past post thing wouldn't serve as such a big advantage anymore.
It does make it more challenging ^^

Knerd 10-27-2008 11:02 PM

I asked for searching to be disabled, otherwise you guys would be able to pinpoint keywords in everyone's past posts. So yeah - This will be a bit of a challenge.

But that's the fun of it!

Waffle 10-27-2008 11:03 PM

I just hope I don't get someone who rarely goes on. xD

.Simplicity. 10-27-2008 11:03 PM

Ooo, a great challenge!
Can only hope that I won't suck at it now.
Haha.
XD

Kadrias 10-27-2008 11:03 PM

Oooh.. this seems fun. 83

Winterwolfgoddess 10-27-2008 11:07 PM

A challenge is always fun. ^^

M i n u x e 10-27-2008 11:09 PM

Well so far it seems like all the interested people who I assume have signed-up are all active so we won't have to worry about getting an inactive victim ;D

Morwyn 10-27-2008 11:09 PM

This does sound like a lot of fun! I'm going to sign up XD This is only my second event, and I think the first time I've ever actually participated in any of the games. this is going to be great! <3

Lumi 10-27-2008 11:11 PM

Cool, this sounds like fun. ^^

I dunno if I could log in 5 times a day though... especially on a weekday. D:

.Simplicity. 10-27-2008 11:12 PM

Good thing I never log out.
Whoever gets me will be one lucky assasin I spose'.
XD

Knerd 10-27-2008 11:14 PM

@Waffle:
At minimum, your victim should be posting 5 times a day. So I'll make sure that everyone is active.

@Lumi:
5 posts doesn't take much effort during an event. Just pop your head into this thread, or one of our many hangouts, and jump into a conversation. If you're having trouble finding something to say, just say 'hello' to me and I'll chat with you for as long as you like!
